Hi, I really want one of these cars, but nobody in the UK seems to know they have even existed... I can't figure out how TOYOTA UK establish which cars are to be important.

It is also known as AE92 Trueno/Levin.

If anyone can lead me in the right direction I would be grateful. smile

I thought the Treuno/Levin name was for the AE86 RWD Corolla Gti, depending on the front end body style... There was only one type of AE92 FWD 'rolla IIRC. I had an AE92 Gti-16 a few years ago and would recommend one. Awesome engine, just watch out for rust!!

no, in Japan they carried on the Trueno/Levin name made famous by the AE86 into a series of FWD coupes similar to the Integra.

That's the funny thing, it was not just Japan.

Have a look at my corolla: www.toyota.vze.com <--- it is so common here in the UK, but back in Malta, it is one of 5.

Of the same EE90/AE92 chassis family we got:
Hatch,
4 Door Sedan
Trueno (as Coupe)
Liftback (the UK common)
and a few wagons.

In Japan, there was the Levin, and Carib (with 4WD).

Also in different countries they had different names.
Mine is Corolla Executive here, Corolla Liftback most places, Corolla SECA in AU, Sprinter Cielo in Japan, etc.

Funny thing is, my rolla (back in Malta), was the UK spec ^o), as the Toyota dealers in Malta (and all dealers for that matter), import UK specs, since we are an EU country that drive on the same side of the road as you guys.

Anyway, thanks, if anybody sees one for sale give me a shout. If not I will have to settle for an old 4A-GE MR2 smile

^^ yes What he said, heaps of them around in NZ. The Levin/Trueno name was also used for the AE85 as well.

AE92:

AE101:

AE111:

All of them used the 4AGE/4AGZE motors.

As far as I'm aware the GTS was the american saloon version of the GTi-16 Hatch we got here - although still based on the AE92 chassis, it ran the 4A-GEU engine which in essence is the 4A-GE but with the additional emissions control stuff we didn't get here in the UK or found on the JDM cars and had slightly less power than the GE

Almost correct. The GTS and SR5 where the coupe version of the AE92. I.e. the Trueno/Levin. They ran all sorts of engines. In Malta they we only had the Trueno as a 'Corolla Coupe' - 4A-FE, or 'Corolla Coupe GTi' - 4A-GE.

We still had the hatch GTi, etc.

So yeah, the GTS is the American name, but it was NOT an American only car. And it was not a saloon. The saloon was called Corolla Sedan in the states, and it was later sold to one of the american car makes and it was called the Geo Prizm.

Incidentally, the AE92 Hatch was still being made till 2000 in Africa as the Toyota Taz (with a minor face lift).
