Always wanted one of these and happened to chance upon a red 1990 manual. It's had a lady owner for the last 9 years who upgraded to an RX-8 about a year ago but was offered peanuts in part-ex so was going to sell it privately but got fed up with all the time wasters and boy racers just wanting a test drive. It remained at her parents place since last May when the tax and test ran out.

I picked it up on Saturday and spent most of today cleaning it in and out, with a couple of hours and half a bottle of t-cut it's come up really well. Took the tow bar off as it looks naff and won't be needed, there's still a piece that I can get access to without removing the rear bumper (any help on how to remove the rear bumper much appreciated)

I hope to get some pictures up tomorrow if the weather's good. Going to book an MOT tomorrow hopefully for later in the week, then if all's OK I'll be giving it a full service.

For this type of car it was refreshing to find one completely standard, it's got the original wheels, steering wheel, gear knob, even the original radio and a standard exhaust and air filter.

The only problems with it is the aerial's stuck halfway up and doesn't budge, this doesn't seem to affect the reception just looks annoying, and there's a bit of rust on the tailgate bubbling from where the spoiler attaches, and a bit on the rear edge of the sills (all the arches are fine though)

Did these car's come with space saver spares as standard? It's just mine has a full size alloy that doesn't sit in the spare wheel well very nicely.

Don't want to be a harbinger of doom but the spoiler problem is pretty standard on these and quite probably worse than it looks.

I don't think they were a space saver, but I may be wrong.

get yourself onto www.sxoc.com

good luck with the purchase.

Will see how the MOT goes, if it's a bad failure then yeah - strip it out and rag it round!

Failed the MOT today but not as badly as I feared:

-emissions co2 too high 4.5% (limit is 3.5%) think some injection cleaner and a decent run should sort that since the car had stood for some 18 months.
-steering column bush has some play in it,
-number plate bulb,
-rear passenger side brake pipe corroded,

Had an advisory on one tyre and a bit of rust at the rear end of both sills.

Gave it a service this afternoon, changed oil + filter, air filter and spark plus. Got the brake pipe, just need to source the bush since my local motor factors couldn't help - any good sites for parts?

Looks nice man. Good luck with getting it through the MOT. Just out of interest dude, how much you pay for it?

Ok so it only cost £300 to buy but then I had to trailer it 200 miles home (was dropping another car off not far from this one though so not too bad)

Costs so far have been:

-MOT £25
-NGK spark plugs £10
-5l oil + filter + air filter £20
-Brake pipe for MOT £10 (but only needed 50cm so got loads left)
-number plate bulb 49p
-Injection cleaner £3.49
-1l DOT 4 brake fluid £3

Total for service and MOT: £72

Got it booked in on the 25th to get the rust in the sills sorted, they weren't bad enough to fail the MOT but I want to get them sorted before they get chance to get any worse. Been quoted £140 to have the old rusty bits cut away, and new metal welded and painted which is very reasonable. That will take 2-3 days so it should then be ready to tax from April 1st.

Once I have the sills done the car will owe me about £600, what do you reckon it would be worth?
