Anyone here had their car mapped by them? Im looking at getting my R33gtr mapped soon after ive fit all the upgrades I have ready to go on. I should be looking at around the 500bhp mark. Was wondering what they were like with mapping, especially skylines. I ask as they are fairly local to me compared to the usual suspects.

Know a couple of people who have had their carbs mapped and tuned a few years back, nothing but good comments from them.

I enquired about getting a motec mapped by them and the price they quoted was either to make me F off or they have a really rather obscene pricing structure, then a few months later found someone that had bought a motec off them and had it fitted and mapped and it looked like a cheap bodge install (left the AFM in place and used the stock slow built in AIT sensor rather than ripping it all out and fitting a fast sensor), even left the OEM ecu in and ran the motec like a piggyback, pure laziness when all the stock ecu was left to do was operate the air con idle up and it ran pig rich and he was relieved of £3K for the pleasure. Same guy (with same car as me) drove my car, not mapped by them with a similar ECU that cost £300 for fitting and mapping and he thought it was generally a much better drive,.. so basically I wouldn't rate them.

I'd previously bought a hybrid turbo from them and that was good.

This is the company that Mitsubishi use to tweak the Evo to produce the FQ400. The guy you need to speak to is Mark Harrison - he's the mapping guy.

No Dave Rowe of MoTeC Europe mapped the EVO FQ400, they do have involvement with the rally car though.

Your better off going to Horsham Developments down in Newbury. It will be much cheaper, and probably a better job.

I don't think Jez maps the motec systems.

I have nothing but praise for Owen Developments. It's a family buisness established bloody ages ago and they are THE ONLY Garrett approved service centre in the UK, Europe and the Middle East. When it comes to turbo's they really do know what they are doing. They have refurbed quite a few for me now and build some stuff to suit my vehicles. The bespoke service really is the key to be honest, instead of going R33 = GT30 out the door. They will actually speak to you and build you a custom turbo specificly for the way you like to drive + the power/response levels you want.

Mark knows motecs like the back of his hand and while i have never done anything with him personally if he's anything like the rest of them up there - he's an expert in there field. Owen Developments dyno room is like a fricking wind tunnel (seriously) they can simulate some very high speeds in there to propperly map your car. Something that 99% of other companies can't do.

It depends on how much they want, £250 should be all you need to pay for a road map, £400 max for a dyno map including road tune.

If the price is between those 2, i'd go for it.

My 200sx has a H-dev chip. One of the best bits I have bought so far, very good map.

for anyones info - Owen Developments are now only mapping cars fitted with Motec engine management. They are so busy with rich bods that they can afford to limit their market. So they are a no go!

Owen Developments are very good from what I have read. They have developed custom twin scroll turbos for a couple of Jap car magazines.

Vixpy - yes Jez said that we can take it to you for the rolling road. That would have been my prefered route, followed by fine tuning on the road. But Its getting mapped by him today now. So fingers crossed he does a good job, and all goes well! cheers!

ps - Ive been down to your RR before when I had my cerb on one of the rr days we did! ;-)
