Hi,

I recently experienced something that made me question whether my LSD is working and if so how much slip it allows.
I generally drive with the TC off. I'm no hero but it's so intrusive pulling out of junctions and on corners that it's easier to leave it off. However on a day of typically English weather I found the inside wheel really spinning up and a new light flashing on the dash of a couple of wiggly lines and a car silhouette. Does anyone know what this is? whether my LSD is kaputt or anything else? smile

All ideas/suggestions welcomed.

Thanks,

Crook

It's the "slip indicator light." It means the ESP system has detected wheel slip or an 'unusual' vehicle movement and is operating to rein-in the engine power and/or selectively brake a wheel.

Edited to add:
Is yours a UK spec car with full stability control or a Jap import with the more basic traction control?

It's a UK car Puddenchucker.
So, is the LSD not mechanical? The light's not come on under any other circumstances.

I dont think all 350z came with LSD. Doing a brief seach shows that the "base model" whatever that means, didnt come with one.

Easyest way to find out is to jack the rear up, and turn one of the wheels. If the other wheel turns the same way then you have a LSD, if it turns the reverse direction then you have an open diff.

All UK spec cars come with a Viscous LSD.
Lower spec USA and Jap cars come with an 'open' mechanical diff.
Also, all UK cars have a 'Brake LSD' as well - that is the ESP system will apply the brake to one of the rear wheels if it's spinning under power.

It must be quite a low lock up % then? especially to need electronic stuff too.
