Left the house this morning and found the driver's side lock hanging out of the car.

How dodgy does that Cherokee look? Parked outside with no lights on, then pulls off with no lights on as the MX5 approaches. Nothing in the car, not even a stereo, I keep it empty. Looks pre-meditated to me. I know the MX5 driver, will ask him tonight.

Hopefully they won't be back. Doesn't look cheap for me though. Any recommendations of somewhere that can fix that?

sounds premeditated to me too tbh. Does your Legacy share bits with the Impreza of the same era? If so it could easily have been a parts donor they were after. Maybe worth being careful given that they know your car isn't exactly secure right now

It shares some, but I don't know about the door handles and locking mechanisms. I'm not even sure where to start with it really.

I guess I will need a new lock with new key, and for the alarm to be fixed with the new lock? I may even need a whole new door. Two sets of keys then, fan bloody tastic.

If I where you I would go to a hardware shop in get some cheap motion detctors and some lamps. Just a sort of "I can see you" sort of message.

Yeah probably will do at the weekend, have taken from porch light off the timer so it's always on, and trained two IP cameras on the car.

Current estimate to fix is between £600 and £700 depending on what needs doing frown
