Hello again, Please could you feed me some more of your Subaru knowledge,As you know I have Subaru STI 55 plate and as you can imagine the car is pretty faultless, but ive noticed how much quieter my Scoob is to everyone elses ive got the usual Subaru exhaust except that I have also got a Prodrive backbox (already fitted when I bought the car), Ive been told that if I fit a center cat by pass pipe ???? confused to the car that this will then give me that deep burble that I crave and also does the Prodrive backbox make any difference to the sound and performance.......Thanks for reading all wisdom as always greatly received, Cheers.

Hi mate,

The Prodrive back box has a nice sound but is a little quiet to be honest. A cat replacement pipe will help improve the sound but if you take out a cat you should really get the car re-mapped to ensure it is running correctly and you get the most out of the modification. At a guess you could probably see an extra 30bhp with a decat and map. The cheapest option would be to replace the system from the cat back, there are a large number of systems to choose from out there from tame systems to others that will make your ears bleed!!!

Personaly i think the Magnex system has quite a nice sound without being too expensive, about £330.

Best thing would be to get along to a local Subaru meet and take a look and listen to what others have. Scoobynet will probably have an owners club near you and most have regular meets.

Hope this helps,
Ian;)

If you buy a 2.5" stainless steel deresonated center pipe (Hayward & Scott or Miltek) it will fit directly to your Prodrive backbox and standard 2 piece downpipe without any issues as they will be manufactured for a perfect fit. It will make a difference to the sound in the way it sounds and up the volume a bit, certainly enough for you and everyone else to hear the differnce.

Personally speaking and as you will soon be out of the manufacturers std factory warranty period, i would hang on until that runs out, and then go and buy a decatted uppipe, catted 100Cell downpipe and deresonated center pipe to add to the Prodrive backbox you already have.

Not only will it sound really sweet and just like a proper Scooby, but with a bit of mapping (come and talk to me about a stage1 non-ECUtek map) and a couple of further very inexpensive mods (Snorkus mod and high flow green panel air filter) you will have a genuine 300bhp flyer without a doubt.

Thanks for all your input, I thought I could just put a center decat pipe on and then drive off into the sunset to find the nearest Shell station, but obviously not that simple, or cheap, I would go to the local Subaru meet for advice but everyone may aswell be speaking in Japanese (nothing against Japanese people) and as I am not yet fluent in Japanese and know absoultly zero about the guts of a car, I could stand out a bit, people might think I was a Subaru imposter and I was just standing next to it trying to look cool.
At some point in the very very near future I will be getting the exhaust changed so I will have to have this remap that you speak of, I live in the Merseyside area do you know of anywhere that is tried and trusted that I can get remaped.
Once again thanks for the input.

Simple answer to get a bit of burvle back would be to fit a second cat replacement pipe

this one

http://www.haywardandscott.com/Details.asp?ProdID=...

And then a centre unresonated section

This

http://www.haywardandscott.com/Details.asp?ProdID=...

If that does not give you enough burble then a new backbox

then this one

When you go for a remap if you want a bit more power, and more noise go for a full CAT replacement pipe

This one

A decent Panel filter and a ECUTek remap by Andy forest of Bob Rawle you should have a car with 330Bhp and 330lb/ft

The above should cost you around £1400 all in fitted including the remap. but the piece by piece approach means you can do it when funds permit.

Have a look at what i ahve been doing to my motor. in my profile.
