Im looking at cars this weekend. Ive picked out a ealry Mk1 Eunos or Starlet turbo. Want some advice of where to look and things to look for. Got £3000 - £5000 to spend. Would like some left over to spend on the car. Anywere in the south sell imports?

Two very different cars there, I guess your choice depends on whether you want speed or handling. A Starlet turbo will leave a standard MX5 for dead in a straight line and will probably even carry similar outright corner speed, but the MX5 will be much more fun to drive, they really are brilliant to play with on the limit. Great handling, nice revvy engines, snick-snick rifle-bolt gearchange...

A dirt-cheap '89 1.6 MX5 has been my introduction to sportscar ownership, I'm currently thinking about selling it for a newer MX5 with a turbo conversion, theres a few of them around and they generally go like absolute stink.

I wouldn't know what its like it the UK, except that its much worse than here in NZ (though we complain about ours too).

For comparison I'm 23 with 6yrs no-claims bonus, what it costs me for full cover:

'97 Legacy TSR Wagon (2.0NA AWD): NZ$550 PA
'89 Eunos Roadster 1.6: NZ$320 PA
'96 MX5 1.8 turbo (very modified): NZ$460 PA (quote I got yesterday)

How much worse is the UK?
