Eunos, how much to offer?
Discussion
I went yesterday to look at a new car. I looked at some golfs, 3 series then I went to an import place. I test drive a 96 1.8 Mx-5 and decided I had to get one.
As im still quite young im opting for the 1.6. They guy had a 1989 1.6 Eunos. White. It was modified with a body kit, coilovers, HKS exhaust, HKS tunned and a few other bits. Engine, gearbox look and felt top notch so did the interior. The body work was shabby, the fibre glass bits were flaking. Roof was missing back glass although he said he would replace it. Cam belt had been changed. 1 years tax. new MOT and service. IT had only covered around 45,000 miles. Yet to look at the paperwork and history. He wants £3200 for it. Il be paying cash so I want to get that down a bit. Mite get a deal on an alarm and some ICE from the shop he owned.
Does it sound worth it? Or should I try find cheaper higher mileage one? What could I do to the body work to clean it up and how much?

First of all, by saying your young and presumably worried about insurance, Id advise against going for a pretty heavily modified car, all those mods will load your premium upto if not past what the 1.8 would cost.
Also, In my opinion that price is a bit high, I know its got a few mods, but its nearly 20yrs old and has tatty body work.
Have you looked on PH classifieds? There are hundreds of MX-5's.

Like above if you are young you'd be better off with the 1.8 than a modified 1.6 if you're going for the 1.6 to reduce the insurance.
Some of the early cars had a different design on the crank. This can be damaged easily by poor work when changing the cambelt as I understand it.
If I were you I'd look for a nice clean 1993 1.6 for the same money. Some insurers will charge more for an import Eunos than a UK MX5 so if you can find a UK one you like it might save you a few pennies on the insurance as well. Although a Eunos will probably be in better condition.
