I need some help and advice please. I am curretly driving around in a K reg honda prelude 2.2 vtech Which is pushing out about 197bhp. As much as i like this car i want something differant i.e either rwd or 4wd and with a turbo. Im looking to trade my car and spend around £5000. Now here is my dilemma there are quite a few cars that i like but while i research how much the insurance will rob me i would like to get some advice and techinal info on the following cars in no perticular order

Subaru Impreza either wrx sti or the type r
Evo IV would like a 5 or 6 but too much money at the mo are there any tuning probs with the 4?
RX7 oil drinker? rebuild at 70K?
200sx s14 s15?
3000gt
gto
galant vr4
supra
soarer
mr2 turbo

I know i am asking alot if anybody could give me some pointers or tell me where i could find some technical data i would be grateful.

Many thanks Tim

Google is a wonderful thing if you want pure technical data. For opinions, tell us more about your requirements other than "something different".

I have a Single Turbo RX7 and it doesn't use much oil at all. Infact i've had it since April and haven't had to top it up once. I do check levels almost every time i drive it as well. Maybe i don't drive it hard enough? lol

Rebuilds, yep if you keep it long enough or by a high miler your going to need to budget for one.

Forget the tech info.

Do you like driving sideways everywhere? If yes, then the S14 is the car for you.

Do you like driving incredibly quickly (without that much ride comfort) in order to have even the most remote amount of fun? If so, then get the Evo.

Same as the last one, but the speed is reduced and the ride is more comfortable? Then get the Scoob.

Do you want a smooth, progressive but very thirsty quick car that isn't quite any of the above? Then go for the RX7.

I've driven at least one of each of the above, so although my descriptions are a bit tongue-in-cheek, they're not too far from the truthwink

The Scoob and Evo will be a bit more expensive to insure than the other two.

The same car mateywink

The 3000GT is the UK version and the GTO is the japanese import. The uk one has a leather interior and moonroof as standard and on the GTO they are options, and the headlight unit on the front is a bit different, but other then that it's the same car.

Would highly recommend them though, i just love mine to bits. It's fast (3.0 V6 Twinturbo, with 300 bph unmodified), has 4wheeldrive and 4wheel steering, is really comfortable and it just looks the beast.

I've had mine for just over a month now and already had several people asking if they could take a picture of it, or complementing me on "my nice ferrari".

The MPG is about 16 MPG if you enjoy it and use the turbo's, but you can get it up to 22-24 MPG if you let your nan drivewink

Haven't got any experience with the other cars you listed so can't help you there i'm affraid.

drive the WRX STi Type R, Galant VR4 and the MR2T.

If you like the WRX best, drive the Evo as well and decide...because you want a rally car.

If you like the Galant, drive some other super-saloons as well, because you want a fast thirsty cruiser.

If you like the Mr2 Turbo, drive the RX-7, becuase you want a sports car.

if you like none of these, or find them all a bit too grippy, drive the S14. It is kind of a mix of all things, but with lots of sideways added in.

If nothing still floats your boat, you probably want to save up lots of money and buy a Supra.

if i had £5k to blow on a car i would go for the VR4 without question. it has the performance to surprise most sports cars and it has practicality and comfort too. it is also far more exclusive than anything else on the list since no sod knows what they are or what they are capable of. because they are so underrated you will get a much younger VR4 for the same money as a well established sports car.

Thanks for that so far. In referance to shadowninja i have no specific requirements except that its really got to be jap performance. I have no kids there is only me and the missus she hates the prelude i liked it when i got it but had few problems with it now i want something else. Does anyones know of tuning problems wit the evo 4's. I Did pop up to merry hill cars yesterday but they wanted me to leave a diposit and come back in a few days in order to test drive a car.

I'm biased but....

...drive an MR2 turbo.

They are stupidly great, and now that I've bought mine i can encourage other people without fearing someone else will buy my minter from under my nose smile

Visit the SXOC forum for all the info on S14a'swink

Fantastic cars, and dont believe the common misconception that they go sideways all the time, they can be set up to be monumentally grippy, even in the wet smile

Another vote for the MR2 Turbo, especially if it is rev 3 and above, (as it surely will be with that budget). Very underated, and overlooked car in my opinion. A lot faster than the 200, and in my experience on a par with the RX7 for hooning in the twisties. Avoid the 3000gt, as it is a bit TOO GT to be compared with the smaller jap cars. The supra, however, seems weirdly nimble, and small despite it's size.
