I was looking at the handbrake on my dads Primira and after cleaning the pads etc. it still does not work very well, I think that the piston is push out along a tread when the handbrake is pulled on could it be that the piston is stuck on the tread or maybe the cable needs adjusting, can anyone give me a clue where to look next.

Cheers Rob

The mechanism siezed on mine, where the cable attaches to the back of the caliper to pull a kind of lever - the lever was stuck in the 'on' position leaving loads of slack in the cable that stopped the other side working properly too. Check those levers on both sides. I ended up just getting another caliper of ebay.
Also, you can adjust the cable at the cabin end, look through the rubber flaps (oo er) by the handbrake lever and you should see a little nut - 10mm I think that you can use to take the slack out if there is any.

eta, I just realised I'm assuming you've got rear discs not drums - if its drums never mind, I know nothing!!
