S14 silvia or ek9 type r
Discussion
hello im elliot, im new to this forum,
been on clio sport.net for a year or so but just sold up and want something jap.
Been looking for a while at various import centres and my short list is now a silvia s14 and an ek9 civic type r, really really struggling to choose which one, i have a company smoker so will only be using the car as a track car and nurburgring trip next year so has to be reliable.
which would you choose and why???
or
any other cars you can think of which i may have not thought of???
thanks

I'd probably pick the EK9, purely because out of the box it'll be more track focused than the S14.
The S14 will have more potential if you are going to mod it, but saying that you could probably pick up an s14 with track focused mods for the price of the EK9, they have held their money very well.

why you going for an import?
There are plenty of UK S14s about. Get over to www.sxoc.com and you could find an already modded one with coilovers and bigger brake kit and probably be able to check its history as well.

Civic or 200SX?? Not really a direct comparison!!
One will cost you thousands to tune any further and will either scare the crap out of you by understeering off the track, or will scare the crap out of you with twitchy lift off oversteer.
The other will only cost a few hundred to tune to Boxster beating performance (straight line) and will have you grinning like a village idiot as you powerslide round the track in plumes of smoke (eventually)
S14 all the way for me, but then I am slightly biased

Not right to compare the two as they're very different cars. Depends on your budget mate. If you want a mixture of the two could i suggest a DC2 ITR? Its a coupe like the S14 but with a bigger B series engine like the Civic. And it can become a lot more focused on track as they're quite cheap now.
Stock S14/S14a are very restricted.
They run something like 7 psi in first, and then 10psi in the other gears, have a 1 1/2" exhaust system which is kinked, and the s14a have two cats.
A fuel pump for £60, exhaust for £150, and a boost controller for £25 and you have a good 260bhp.
290bhp is easily to- FMIC, plugs, re-map from h-Dev for around £180.
The handling can be sorted for peanuts too.
Out of the box- EK9, everything else the Hundy.
