When you start moving the Subaru satnav disables some of its functions. It's a safety feature but for those of us capable of multitasking ans risks assessment it's a bloody irritation. I'd *sometimes* like to set a destination while I'm moving.

Anyway, if you press the title bar of the menu screen for about 5 seconds the screen invited you to enter a PIN key. My friend has a similar system in his Discovery-3 (both systems are made by Nippon I believe) and knows his PIN code (he has a friendly LR dealer).

I haven't approached my dealer yet... just wondered if anyone here had tried it with any success?

It may well use the same 4 number pincode that your alarm system/immobiliser uses for overiding it.

Have a look at your spare key to see if there is a small tag attached to it or a sticker with some numbers on it. It may be a 5 or 6 digit code. I think the first 4 numbers count as the pin code. Try that otherwise talk to your dealer as they are obliged to get you the pin to your alarm system or the satnav if you ask for it, and it's none of their business for what reason you want the code.....it's your car!!

If you are friendly with your dealer all the better as they may well just be happy to give you the overide code to be helpful. If you kill yourself while messing about with your satnav that's your problem...not theirs thumbup

The Land Rover SatNav uses the same system. My friend knows his code, it's a 4-digit one. I have the original paperwork showing the alarm disable PIN, and that's also a 4-digit code. I've tried it but to no avail. I've also tried the code my friend has for his Landy, also to no avail.

I think a call to the dealer is probably my only recourse. Thanks.

My friend uses 1791 to disable the data entry lock-out. This doesn't work with mine.

The Corvette Forum guys are trying to find it too. Another Legacy driver on that forum has found 014220 lets him into a completely different set of menus, which look largely useless to me but interesting nonetheless.

Another number that cropped up on that forum is 295660. I haven't tried the numbers from that forum yet but I suspect I'll require a 4-digit code to disale the data entry lock-out, same as my Landy-owning friend.

Your unique code will be specific to you car, alarm system, immobiliser, key transponder and satnav. Looks like you'll have to chat up your dealer and give them your VIN No. and hopefully they can sourse the info.

Sorry i couldn't help.

No problem. Thanks for engaging.

As it happens, I have been surfing for a solution and it seems that the 1971 code (not 1791 as I wrote above) was widespread throughout many Denso applications. It was known amongst the Cadillac, Corvette, US-based Legacy, Land Rover and Range Rover forums but they all say it was rescinded at some point.

I tried a raft of the codes I've discoverd on these forums and found that only the 014220 code does anything on mine. It unlocks another set of menus which might be useful if I want to implement a camera (for reversing?) or voice commands (which, I think, needs some additional hardware to implement a mic) but also contains some off-set/pre-set values which, if messed with, could bugger up my system. So I'll be leaving well alone.

Still after the 4-digit data entry menu unlock code. I think you might be right about tackling the dealer though.

Cheers.
