hi there everyone.
this is my first post on this forum, so hello to you all! im having issues with getting an induction kit for my mera GTi, i bought a cheapo universal one from the sperm of the devil ( Halfords lol ) and after adapting it to fit the wierd MAF sensor by making an adaptor plare, i got it on. but when i took it for a test drive it was fine for a few minutes, then soon as it heated up a little it would not idle, soon as i took my foot off the faster pedal the engine would die???? i had the same thing on Vauxhall Astra GSi 93' Redtop C20XE, which i have been told are prety equel. i asked in Demon Tweeks if there was anything i could do to sort this out, and he said i would have to get the ECU re-mapped is he right??? has every mera gti with a cone on it been remapped or chipped????? many many thanks in advance for any replies, and if anyone knows anywhere good around the north wales area to get a de-cat pipe made pretty cheap please let me know lol!

Put it back the way it was, and see if it drives normally again. Oh, and reset your ecu.

You should be able to, I reckon you've done something wrong. What did you do to modify the sensor?

Just wondering what you did to modify the tube to fit the sensor. I think that's the only thing that would feck up the engine.

Is the filter dry or oiled?

Sounds like you fubared the MAF sensor.
As for the Demon thieves guy telling you to get a remap? rofl Shows how much they know about cars... I really wouldn't get any advice from someone who works for a firm whose motto is probably "The more bits of plastic on your car, the better it is!" confused

lol, the adaptor was just a plate with a tube attatched, nothing fancy, and nothing that would mess anything up, it was purely to fit the filter to the maf sensor. anyways, ive put the old airbox back on an it works fine lol. as for tweeks's motto lol, i totally aggree. its like ripspeed all over lol! if i put these chrome washer jets on itl give me 400bhp!!!! lol, im gonna try an almera induction kit an see how that goes. lol, cheers guys!

Sounds like the MAF is screwed. Check its plugged in correctly, and that you havent damaged it.

As a fellow owner of said car, i suspect you have got oil on the MAF and will need to carefully clean it.
If you really want a cone filter then you'll want to get a dry apexi filter, only place i can remember that sells them is driftworks.com
You will probably want to route a cold air feed to it though.
However if you actually want to improve performance sllghtly and avoid heatsink get an itg panel filter and carefully drill some holes out of your standard airbox on the side not facing the engine.

Any other questions about the almera?
