if you go onto the lancer forum, there is a calculator which will tell you rough figures:

http://www.lancerregister.com/mlr_runningcostcalcu...

there you go

short service intervals wont help your cause i doubt either...

ceetainly not a car to run on a shoestring!

Has anyone ever said to you 'You only Live once'???
Thats what i keep telling myself and i'm in the market for one.
Its a buyers market so if you get a good deal the savings will fund the Evo for a fair few months!!

I'm convincing myself anyway!

I'm on my second Evo - I had a VI at 22 and a IX from 24 and I have never once regretted it.

They cost a lot of money, but then if you had a running cost calculator for a bog standard car I bet it would be a lot more than you would think.

The car is actually pretty good on clutches as long as you don't launch the car. Just make sure the clutch is not pressed before you use the power and you will do 40,000 miles on the standard clutch.

Discs and pads are very cheap too if you use the right places. Uprated parts are actually cheaper than the original items. Carbotech pads are excellent and will last you a long time.

do you have to use super unleaded?
Its highly recommended but I have heard of others having their car mapped for 95 ron

how much are pads and discs ?
As stated carbotech XP8's retail at about £150 and a set of standard discs are about the same but you can go up to hundreds per disc if you want just depends on what you can afford

how often is a cambelt change and how much?
Same as a normal car I think, I paid £600 to get the balance shaft belt, timing belt and all tensioners done

do they eat clutches if they do what wiil it cost to sort?
Not had any problems with clutches and been in an Evo for 5 years they start at about £250 not including fitting

how easy is it to sorce spares?
No problems at all there is a load of help on the MLR www.lancerregister.com

how often do you need an oil change?
4500 miles but recommended slightly earlier

I hope this helps, I love mine to bits, great fun, unbelievable handling and it turns in to a nice family car when required. perfect

That's a clever calculator. Seem to be quite cheap to run one, then. Was expecting to be raped on service costs for some reason (have owned Skylines before).

Nah its not that bad now, when I had my first one it was pricey due to the rarity at the time of them but now there is a load of tuners specialising in them bringing the price down

Cool. Any in the Surrey area? (Or more helpfully for others, where can I get a list across the country?)

RG Motorsport is superb. Very cheap servicing and top notch work. I travel an hour from Croydon to Newington (Kent) for each service.

Highly recommended.

Well done for at least considering the running costs! It's easy to get bitten after buying the car.

The biggest factors will be insurance and fuel. I did the calculator and got an estimate of around £1 a mile running cost.
For comparison, my first car was an Audi 80Tdi. Over 2 years and 27,000 miles it had cost me £10,000 or abot 34p a mile. My Nissan 200SX cost me about 55p a mile. For the fun, that made the Audi feel like a real rip off! (it was!) So the Evo is fairly pricey to run, but only you can judge if it's worth it!
