Mitsubishi Evo X, Which Model?
Discussion
I'm posting this on behalf of a work colleague of mine who's planning on buying an Evo X in the next 2-3 months.
He's looking at the GS-FQ manual model but is undecided between the 300 or the 330 model.
Could anyone tell me if the power difference between the two models is just down to the mapping or is there a difference engine-wise?
Looking at the specs on the Mitsubishi website it seems that the 300, 330 and 360 all share the same spec engine but I imagine there must be some difference to give the extra power.
With the 300 model, would it be a reasonable expectation to tune it up to 330bhp through a remapping or would there be far more work involved?

I'm not an expert on the Xs, but on previous models the cars have basically come over from Japan in base spec (GS/GSR, SST/Manual) and are then tweaked by adding exhausts and/or tweaks to the maps.
From what I've read it's a simple case of induction, exhaust and remap to get a X FQ300 (non-SST) to near 400 bhp and it can be done for around £1,500, but it will likely void parts of your warranty.
Avoid the SST like the plague if you want more than 300 bhp, as the gearbox is rumoured not to be able to take any more power and Mitsi are highly likely to make you pay to replace it if it goes pop. The cost is rumoured to be £thousands.

Thanks for the replies guys.
When I was hunting about on Google I came across the site for RC Developments. They appear to know their stuff about the Evo's and offer some impressive performance improvements for not too much money when compared to the standard Evo's.
Does anyone have any experience of dealing with RC Developments?
My mate was thinking about the SST 'box but I'll mention the problems that seem to have arisen with the 'box.

SST box doesn't like torque - the factory SST is quoted at the same power as non-SST but detuned, 370Nm instead of 410Nm torque.
