can anyone tell me exactly where the charcoal fuel vent filter is on the 5th gen Celica? Doing some searching on the net and the only place I've found mention of it is in the engine bay near the nearside wing (or at least, that's where the check valve from the vent is supposed to exit) only I can't find it anywhere! Just wondering if they moved it at any point on any variations.

if its in the same place as the GT-Four it will be next to the fuel filter in fact it shares the same bracket.

look in engine bay on nearside rear just behind the strut housing underneath the diagnostic port about halfway down the engine bay there should be some vac piping coming from it which iirc goes up to the manifold or throttle body

item #77740 in the below link

http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_E_1991_TOYOTA_CELIC...

shows price of 184 euros but not sure how current that price is

Many thanks magpie - that confirms all my other reading but definitely nothing there on mine. Most odd! On mine I can find nothing but the fuel filter and return pipe, with the only check valve being mounted to the chassis immediately behind the petrol tank. Think I'll call Toyota on Monday and make sure I'm not searching for something that doesn't exist...

If memory serves me correctly, the charcoal canister does sit on the chassis just behind the tank. I'll have a check for you when I get back to work next week if your still wondering.

just to add

I did remove this on mine and vented the tank to atmosphere.

It is only there as an emissions control device as even when parked a car pollutes and this is an attempt to prevent it venting fuel vapour.

If you have access to docs to check if there is another possiblity that'd be great cheers. From what Magpie says I'm wondering if someone has done something similar, but incorrectly, as we know there are issues with the fuel system somewhere!
