NISSAN 200SX Who To Trust To Tune?

My mate has just bought a 200SX and it has receipts for a full engine rebuild and i can see other performance parts have been fitted. The guy he bought it off did say it needs setting up and it's definitely not running right as its only showing less than 0.5 Bar on the boost gauge. Also when first started up it sounds like it has a dry tappet but as soon as the oil gets to it it quietens down but you can still hear it and it seems to come and go as your driving it? Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Yes well he bought it as a project knowing it wanted work and paid the appropriate price for it. He wants to sort the engine first and it has had money spent on it.

The rattle on startup is common and normally attributed to a vvt sprocket. It just needs the oil pressure to get to it and the noise stops, but it's no problem. However tapping noise coming and going once moving is more of a worry!

Also try APT in Norwich.

What spec is the car? If its standard turbo and standard injectors then it should run out of the box. If its got uprated injectors or uprated turbo then it needs remapping and will run like a dog until it is. This is relatively simple if you know what you are doing (JEZ/APT).

boost may be down to avoid problems until its mapped or it could be the sign of other things eg boost leak etc

hi ive got a nissan 200sx 1.8 turbo s13 it runs and drives fine but after a run when i let it sit idol it starts to smoke in intervals the smoke smells of oil it dont happen when its cold just after a run but some time it dont happen at all any know what it could be???? please help some 1 in need of peace of mind lol

Take it to DCMS in Burnley to check everything is working as it should firt off, Graham looks after scores of the SXOC 200's

Then for mapping, as suggested above, take it to Jez at Horsham developments. He is a specialist in mapping 200's and has mapped my S14's for over 5 years with fantastic results

Another vote for Jez Horsham if you're anywhere near Oxfordshire. He's a top bloke and a safe pair of hands for 200Sx's of all flavours. APT aslo have a good reputation.
