Just picked up my RX8 at the weekend. Noted the RX8 is not listed on the Mazda forum so thought I'd post in the Jap Chat. Not much discussion when you search either.
Are there many RX8 owners here?, would be interested in their feedback.

As far as first impression go, I'm not disappointed. Had Jap bikes but never a Jap car, funny thing is that with the rotary motor its more like driving with a bike engine. I see why they have a beeper to tell you to change at 9,000 rpm - it just keeps reving, there is no loss of power at too high a revs that you get with most engines.

I do like the attention to detail, the dials, the Bose hifi are great, driving position is nice and for a 4 seater with a boot the handling is very sure footed. Fuel consumption doesn't seem as bad as I thought, guess it depends what your used to.

Yep I've got an RX8. A PZ Prodrive version.Had it 2 years now and its the best car I've ever had. Had TVRs (3 of them) Honda Civic Type R and Alfas before it. But the RX8 just manages to tick all the boxes. Handles well, looks interesting, well priced, reliable (touch wood) and a good laugh to drive.

Thanks Tom, most of the feedback on the RX8 club is that if you can put up with the 18-22 mpg that most people get, owners love them. I agree the handling is excellent and you do get alot of car for the money. Continue to enjoy.

They're MEGA cheap for what you get now aren't they!! :O

there was a PZ on there for ~£12k, 2 years old, 25k miles or something... looked stunning too!

Thats what convinced me to get one. People will say the fuel costs are high for a 1.3 rotary engine and yes they use oil, but they are the same performance and ecconomy with similar rear space and boot as a VW golf R32 for half the price (0-60 in 6.4, 149 mph for the 231 bhp). As they are not tuned family cars but a specifically designed sports coupe the handling and grip is great. You can pick up a good condition 2004 with low miles for as low as 7K. Not good for the sellers but a must for petrol heads with kids to consider.

7K.....doh.. I seem to be in negative equity with my PZ then.

I picked my 230 up in July and am loving it to bits. You really need to rev the engine to get decent power out, but it sounds so sweet at 8000rpm that that's not a problem at all biggrin
fuel economy isn't great, but still pretty comparable to any 3L sporty coupe.

Ive had mine for just over a year, depreciated like a stone and drinks like a fish but I cant fault it really (apart from the rattles).

Join the RX8 owners club and spend £600 or so on a Borla Exhaust. It transforms the car and makes it sound awesome. Dont listen to what anyone says about Racing Beats, Borla is the way to go laugh

Does the Borla Exhaust give you any performance improvements? There is a different exhaust on the PZ but not sure it does much to the performance.

The PZ system is slightly better than the standard but none of the sports exhausts offer more BHP (even though they say otherwise). However, the smile factor is massive and I have the window open at every opportunity to listen to the noise, esp the pops on the over run.

Sounds like i might have to purchase one then. I used to have a Speed 6 Cerb which would pop and bang on the over run. Sort of miss that.... although in the end the speed 6 went bang in a big way hence the more reliable Rx8.
