Hi folks, my girlfriend has just bought herself a Supra, non turbo non cat 1988 model, and now muggins here has to put it right, not to say its a nail, just a few hopefully minor issues to put right.
  • Lambda sensor...it has one fitted, but there are no wires attached to it, and no evidence of where the wires should be routed. Has anyone any photos of the engine bay, wire tracers etc for the lambda sensor
  • TPS..similar story here, no wires connected to it. Can't see any lost connectors or such like, where's the wiring meant to be routed, what are the tracer colours etc.
Hopefully with those to issues sorted it will run much better. It goes ok, but really doesn't pull like I would expect of a 3l motor, my 325 e30 seems much quicker. I think its over fuelling at high load, probably a combination of the above two issues.

The only other problem is the needle for the speedo doesn't illuminate, how is it meant to be lit, and how do I get the dash apart to sort it?

Thanks in advance
Regards
Iain

Not yet mate, however I've found the TPS wires, I think I know where the lambda wire is hiding, however more pressing issues...it's boiling over. There doesnt look like there much in the way of antifreeze in the coolant, so I'm going to flush the system, fill with proper coolant and put a new rad cap on to see if that helps. If not, muggins has a head gasket to do.

Iain

Oh dear, it'll have a blown gasket if its boiling up. You only need to view the forum posts to realise its a very common problem.

Anyway, its an ideal excuse to screw a 1JZ in there in place of the boat anchor 7M engine.

Thanks gents, two weekends ago I flushed out loads of gunge from the block and rad there was no antifreeze in the car at all, and retourqued the heads up to 70lb.ft, I think they'd been done to 55lb.ft as per Toyota's original spec when the headgasket was done 18mths ago by the previous owner, reading around 68-70lb.ft is a better figure. The system as filled ith 50/50 antifreeze and over the last fortnight it's behaved. I'm hoping at the very least delayed the inevitable until I have some more time on my hands.

Iain
