The car already has a Prodrive exhaust, but it still has two cats - the centre/mid cat, and the downpipe cat.

I'd like to keep one, (and maybe replace it with a sports cat) but which one is the better one to get rid of?

Thanks.

Dump the centre cat and get a sports cat for the downpipe (or just keep the old one) :-)

which one is it that you think is Prodrive - I thought both of them were OE?

There seems to be a lot of confusion as to what exactly was provided in each package. I've had a good look around for this info myself, even on SIDC a while back, and i have come to the conclusion that unless you go to a scooby specialist that does lots of classics and has removed a lot of PPP parts (and will know for sure) or Prodrive themselves you're unlikely to know what's there without a damn good close inspection of the cars exhasut and all the other bits that may or may not have been replaced.

From his description i think Orangecurry has a PPP backbox, not sure about the centerpipe (it may be catless??), or the downpipe cat (might be PPP). If the downpipe has a PPP CAT attached it will have Prodrive identification on it somewhere, as will the centerpipe, and the y-piece under the intercooler should be a polished aluminium effort with red hoses (like the STi). Apart from one of their own ECU's and mapping with ECUTEK there seems to be confusion as to what else it contains such as uprated fuel pump and air filter.

Very difficult to tell without having a really good look at the car.

Jesus, how hard is it to Google 'prodrive' ?

http://www.prodrive.com/up/99MY%20Impreza%20PPP.pd...

I know that in earlier PPPs the 'centre performance exhaust silencer' involved a resonator where the cat is on the OE centre pipe.

errr it's not hard to google 'Prodrive' you are correct.

But that pdf gives no information on the cat(s) OE or otherwise at all. So you've been very helpful rolleyes

I'll have a look for any ids on the kit, and keep anything that says Prodrive on it - thanks

They would be wouldn't they!! biggrin

With a bit of luck the centerpipe is Prodrive and just has the resonator on it to make it a bit quieter, in which case if the only CAT is a Prodrive one attached to the downpipe you're in business!!

I would have thought that to do a proper job Prodrive would have swapped the fuel pump for a Walbro and stuck in a high flow flat panel air filter as well for the small extra cost like they do these days.

On the MY99/00 the PPP consisted of - ECU replaced (mine has a pink STI badge on it), Blue hoses on the intercooler, centre section with a resonator instead of the second cat and a backbox. I also think the restrictor in the boost pipework was changed but not sure of the new size.

so if mine is the same hardware, you reckon I/you only have one cat on at the moment in the downpipe?

IF.... that is the case and it just happens to be an OEM cat you may as well change that for a sports catted downpipe to release those last few extra ponies. yesbiggrin
