Imported Impreza or not ??
Discussion
Im stuck at a hurdle of whether or not to buy an import !! My basic want is a classic wagon, I understand I can get a WRX/STI wagon which has been imported or I can get a turbo 2000 wagon which is UK spec. With an import you have to get remapped for our fuel, problem is, even after the remap can you only run it on the higher octane petrols ?? I know the UK spec will run on both 95ron and the higher ones. Is the remapped engines life shortened, is it prone to failure etc ?? Any views, experiences etc most welcome
You can only run a completely standard UK spec Impreza on 95 RON fuel. Mine detted like mad as soon as it was decatted on 95 RON, but I remapped it myself (and gained a little power in the process) to sucessfully run on 95 RON. Some years of car are easier to map than others, so be aware that this strategy may or may not work for you.
97 RON isn't too hard to find (unless you live somewhere like I do) and scoobs tend to do a few more mpg on 97 compared to 95 RON. But not quite enough to offset the cost difference.
Would you be happy with 208 or 215 bhp when you could have close to 300? And is decent climate control important to you?
If climate control and decent power is important, then import is the way to go. You can remap most to use UK fuel (including 95RON, althoug there will be a small cost in power) without any engine reliability problems. My modified STi v5 RA has performed well here for the past 75k miles.

In that case im sold then !! I have a house in France and drive each time, its around 500 miles and a/c or climate control is a must (if possible), I know that the imports have it more often thatn not and its a rarity in a UK car. I will want to put a new exhaust on anyway so ill do that and remap at the same time. My only doubt was the whole engine longevity but if youve done 75k miles, it cant be that bad !! STI Wagon here I come (soonish anyway) !! It would be rude not to get a scoob with nearly 300bhp too !!

Good call, why go for a watered-down version when you can get the real thing. My vote goes to the STi.
