I've seen a 2001 Impreza Estate WRX with 100k on the clock up for sale for £2000. It's a 1 owner car with service history etc. Would I be just looking at buting a money pit for that price with that kind of mileage on it?
Would I be better off looing for something with lower mileage?

For a 1 owner car with history, that sounds like it is a good price.

No reason why it should be a money pit. They are pretty robust unless hugely abused which is unlikely if the first owner has had it for nearly ten years.

Totally agree with bigdunc.

100K mile scooby's with one owner are as rare as hens teeth and i bet it's been well looked after and has a full service history or near enough!! I bet most of those 100K miles are motorway miles.

£2000 eek If i had the dosh I'd be biting his arm off if the body is halfway decent. You could definately shift that on almost straight away at a profit!!

All i would be checking for is leaks around the turbo and heads, and listening out for piston slap with 100K miles. If all that checks out you're onto a winner. If it drives nice with no knocks, bangs or clatters FFS buy it!! thumbup

P.S. Clutch judder on pull away is common as muck on these whether engine is hot or cold so if it does that don't worry about it as a new aftermarket clutch kit, spiggot bush and skimmed flywheel will sort that out. If it judders a bit, doesn't slip, changes gear well and drives well don't bother with a new clutch as you will soon learn how to pull away in it without envoking too much judder. It's a learned skill!! biggrin

LOL!

I concur with Scoobie and Dunc. A properly maintained, standard WRX should give you no trouble as it's not a particularly highly stressed motor.
It's when tts like me start messing about with them that they blow up.
