Subaru Coupe help.
Discussion
New to PistonHeads but I have faith in getting a sensible and correct answer.
We have a Subaru GL 1600 Coupe in Daffodil Yellow, 1979 with 26,000 miles on the clock.
This was restored by a Subaru employee, at Subaru's HQ in West Brom. This car is about as perfect as you can get and the only one known of in England.
My questions are, where would be the best place to sell this car (hopefully it will be feature in Classic Car Magazine before sale)? How the heck do we work out a price? And does anyone have any idea if there are any more that have been restored or even floating about, knackered, in this country?
We thought at one point this may have been the original press car but we can't get a confirmation (or even an answer) out of Subaru so we are working blind here.
Can anyone advise us on sale etc?
Thank you very much .....

Phone IM back at West Brom and ask if they want it?
Saying that though when I was down last week the place is filled with new STis and Isuzu Rodeos, things like that. Only problem with the West Brom place is that they really dont have anywhere to put it
Never even seen one of those - got any pictures? I am quite intrigued!

I'd be inclined to have a chat with Subaru UK HQ and see what they say. Equally i would consider popping it online here http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/list/506/ Stick £2,500 on it and see what happens.
For starters it will be cheap to run, cheap to insure and cheap to Tax. I appreciate it may be in immaculate condition and only have 24,000m on the clock but at the end of the day it's still just an old subaru and likely there won't be a huge appeal for it other than it will make a youngster that's just passed their test an absolutely cracking starter car and will keep it's value for a very long time to come so long as it's kept in excellent condition. It's got to be worth at least £2K to a collector and i'm sure someone that appreciates old timers will pay that for it.
Sounds a nice example though

Thank you all very much for your help.
Not only do I have the car, I also have ALL the paperwork, including the original handbooks and service manuals, ALL the bills, etc. It is totally rust free and like new (blah blah)
Anyway, we did think about a proper classics auction because to be honest, there is no way I am selling it to a young bloke who's gonna use it every day. This is a true classic and deserves to be treated as such.
I will get some pictures on here but hubby needs to photograph it properly and not when it's raining!
Are the Classic Car Magazines any good? I've never had a car like this before (hubby collects some classics) but this is mine and I want to make sure it goes to a good home.

It may well be worth more than i've pointed out and if it really is that good then it sounds like the classic car mags/online mags are the best place to sell in the UK but you need a proper idea of value and that might be one of the hardest things to find. My guess is that at it's true value no youngster would buy it so collector seems the only way. there must be some Jap classic car enthusiasts in the UK that would know the score, that's a tough one though.
Have you thought about advertising it in Japan or looking at Japan websites for an idea of value. They love their classic jap cars like we love classic fords and vauxhalls etc.... There might be a Jap collector willing to pay decent money and import it back home.

Quite a few Jap websites now come with english translation as well, and if all you get off them is a phone number, address and a few of the right pics showing the right kind of cars for sale then that is at least a step in the right direction.
To be honest quite a few japs probably speak better english than a lot of english do so language is not so much of a barrier these days.
Anyway, good luck with that and if i come up with anything interesting i'll let you know.
You're welcome
