Folks,

Friend of mine has aforementioned car and noticed whilst on the motorway that the oil pressure was 0. The engine sounded fine, though, so we're suspecting the sender might be knackered, or the guage. Hopefully not the HG.

Appreciate it's a bit vague, but does anyone know whether this is a symptom of a common fault with this car that might narrow things down a bit?

Cheers

Are there any other symptoms? Burning oil etc? My first MK1B did this, then began to die a few weeks later (became harder and harder to start, would stall at low revs once warm), and turned out that the Valve stem seals were shot. I'm not saying that's necessarily your problem, but check for 'mayonnaise' under the oil filler cap, oil levels etc etc.

The wires on the sender can drop off of the plug over time, making you brick it that the cars dropped all it's oil.
However, make sure the car has oil pressure before running it any further! It'd be a shame to kill a good 4AGE through neglect!

It's gone into the shop now as it turns out. She did check for mayo, but thankfully nothing. She couldn't quite get to the sender though to check out the connections.

Either way, guess we'll have an answer soon.

Cheers for the input smile

If you did loose oil pressure due to a mechanical fault or seal failure - you'd certainly know all about it in seconds.

You'll probably find the wire has dropped off the pressure sender. Very common as the connector is really rubbish. With all our MK1 MR2's I have cut the connectors off and stripped the wire back, wound it around the nipple on the sender and twisted it back on itself - much, much better and no more loss or inaccurate pressure readings thumbup

That's what I thought too, hence suspecting instrumentation or similar.

Bingo. They fixed it for free, too, which was nice biggrin
