1988 RX7 V8 - How much is it worth???

This is a bit of a follow up of a previous thread about this car but I have since found out more accurate details!
Im considering buying the car from a mate and his dad which he built over 10 years ago fitted with a 3.5 rover V8.
They then sold the car to another mate of his who owned it for 7 of those years and fitted a bigger V8! My mate and his dad have recently bought the car back of him and done some more work to it, but have to sell it due to funding a race car project.
I heard about them selling on the car a few months ago and said I was interested!
The description i got was as below as the car stands now....
1988 Mazda RX7
4.7 (ish) TVR V8
Rebuilt engine
Big valve and ported head
fast road cams
K&N filter
Custom Exhaust
Things needed to be done.....
New suspension could be fitted (on cut springs)
Speedo cable needs to be converted to run with mazda dash.
Well I was also told who did the work and who the prevoius owner was and they are both local! As the car hasnt got any recipts for the work done i thought ide go and speak to them and find out!!
I spoke to the engine builder and asked him what work was done and all he said he done to the engine was give it a check over and fit the piper cams and hydralic lifters before the engine went into the car! He didnt know what the engine was from and didnt know its capacity! This work was done off the books as he was a friend of the cars owner, hence no reciepts!!
So no big valve head, no porting and no rebuild, although he did say it was a good low milage engine!
Then i went to speak to the previous owner who had the bigger engine fitted!
He told me it was a 4.2 from a fire damaged Range Rover and not a 4.7 from a TVR as i was told! He again said it was a good low milage engine and all he had done was to fit the fast road cams, which matches the engine builders description!
Ok so some differences then!!
I also managed to get the car to a mate of mines garage to give it a check over!
I was told the car had never been welded and was mint, however we found some welding patches and some corrosion on a few body panels! The corrosion wasnt too bad and the repairs under the car were done ok, however different from the origional description!
Other than that the car looked sound and ran ok.
I do know that lots of money went into the car over the last 10 years from the 2 owners and I was origionaly offered the car for around the £3500 mark with the origional description!
However, Now i know that its not up to that spec I have said we will have to discuss prices and he said for me to let me know how much I think its worth!!
Well for a car with this kind of conversion is difficult to value so i was hoping for some advice on this from you guys???
Im still interested, but only if the price reflects the value and condition of the car!!??

An FC with a turdy, heavy ass rover V8 engine with knackered suspension is neither cool, fun nor practical. It's MOST DEFINATLY not worth more than £1500 from reading above. Im guessing that after selling the white S14 and breaking the black one your buying this with the intention of using it as a skid car?
If i were you i would think again. Very Very hard as £3500 will buy you A LOT of fun.

I have been thinking and Im not looking to pay £3500 for this car in its current condition!

I do have other Ideas as backup and Im not nessessarly looking for a drift car, just something fun for the summer!! Ive just always fancied a V8 and I love the FC RX7 thats all.

Well ive had a chat and he wont budge on price much as he knows what he spent on it and has no really need to sell now. He said if it doesnt sell he will just keep it for a toy.
I said ill have a think but I dont think its the car for me!!
Any other idea for a fun toy under £3000 (and yes im thinking turboed MX5 too before anyone mentions it lol)

there is a lurrrrvely black rev3 MR2 turbo on MR2OC.co.uk for £3250 right now - I'm sure if you walked up with 3k in cash you could drive it away. 1250kg, 260bhp, good handling. Job done.
If you like going sideways, I'm sure there will be some nice Sylvias over on the nissan owners forum.

He doesn't seem to understand the recession then, its a buyers market. I spent a lot of my car recently (engine conversion), it should have gone for £6k, But I just sold it for £3250 as I needed a quick sale and it needs a bit of work still. Just the way things are.I saw a beetle with a 3.2litre porsche engine (incomplete project) go on ebay a few months back for £1.4k. There are plenty of toys out there if you look
