Afternoon folks, a bit of backgroud first, the GF bought a Mk3 NA Supra last October, and its been relatively trouble free, the only major machanical issue is that the oil seals are FUBAR and clouds of smoke are often seen from the exhaust. I've managed to source a spare engine with a view to giving it a refresh and them swapping it in. I havent collected yet it so havent had an opportunity to inspect it internally but my plans are a basic refresh, bearings, headgasket, waterpump, valve clearances etc, the question is where can I get good quality components without resorting to main dealers? For example who sells the valve shims?

Head gasket sets are £50 on fleabay, but something of an un-known quantity, and not a risk I want to take given the fragility of the 7M-GE headgaskets.

And before you say it, the engine needs to stay relatively standard, so no swapping in a JZ motor or suchlike. I've been intouch with Steve at Silverline regarding some other bits and bobs, but I get the impression he's more biased towards the modified scene.

Regards
Iain

Is the ARP head stud kit the only way to go?
