What is it with old japanese performance cars?

I just can't seem to get enough of them, having just sold a 200SX i've decided that as i don't need a daily drive i'm going to finally take the plunge and buy a Pulsar GTiR.
I've owned older jap cars in varying levels of tune from an EP82 Starlet GT to a Single Turbo FD3 RX7, i'm not really sure what the attraction is. For the same money i'm spending on the GTiR i could get a 172 Cup.
Just a ramble on my part, but does anyone else feel the same? Maybe it's because i like to tinker, and parts, etc are so easy to come by for the older jap cars and relativley cheap too.
One day i'll grow up and own a boring year old BMW but until then, i'm going to make the most of my cheap japanese cars

I feel the same way, all of the cars I aspire to own are Japanese cars from the 80’s and 90’s, nothing modern can seem to catch my eye, such as the new 370z which looks nice, but I’d sooner own a 300zx any day.
When looking back it’s amazing how much of an emphasis Japanese manufacturers put on performance cars back in the 90’s, at one point Nissan were making the Skyline, 300zx, 200/180sx, Sylvia, Pulsar GTi-R all at the same time!! now manufacturers perhaps produce 1 or 2 performance cars at best, how times have changed.

Years ago whilst all my mates had Nova GTEs and Polo G40s I had Honda CRXs, Diahatsu GTTis, Suzuki Swift GTIs and at one point a Mitsubishi Starion Turbo.
So much better than any Eurobox.

Reliable and Pulsar GTiR don't tend to go in the same sentance!I'm exactly the same, I own a 92 PS13 a 97 Pulsar VZR and a 99 Almera GTi. And my Dad has a 99 EK9 as a track car and did own a S14 for 7 years.....oh and my sister has a 97 EK2. We love them.
GTi-R's are very reliable if left alone and don't spend their whole life at Santa pod launching at Xrpm. The 54C SR20DET in them is a 90's masterpiece.

Thanks for that. I've driven one with 320hp. It was fecking fast, but still, the gearbox casings are a known weakpoint and you're kidding yourself if you think otherwise.You only have to look on the forums to see regular posts from people who have popped the input shaft through the side of the box, or at a minimum are replacing the mainshaft bearing on a regular basis.
Hell the last one I exported had two receipts in its history for mainshaft bearing replacement within 18months
