RX8 - Just bought one

Chaps, Chapesses. The better half and I just bought a '56 RX8 today. The car is immaculate, and its a lovely drive. Did some research on here, and acknowledge that its thirsty (mileage for us is low), but concerned about the oil.
There is a thread on here requesting oil frequency and type, but there was no obvious answer.
Would be greatful to hear from other owners about the oil usage/frequency.

Did you get a high power or low power version?
As for your question, use a good 5w30 Semi Synthetic. Don't use fully-synthetic oil.
Something like Castrol Magnatec is fine, Mazda use Delexia Semi-Synthetic and expect to use around 1 litre for every 1000-1500miles.
EDIT: Also, remember you don't need to go for super unleaded fuel either. RX8 doesn't gain anything from it so you can stick with the regular unleaded pump

Ive never measured the usage on the oil. I guess I check it once a month but I dont do many miles or long trips.
I guess in nearly two years of ownership I have brought about 20 litres of oil. If you join the RX8 owners club you get a discount at Opie oils which is already cheaper than the rest anyway.

The renesis is the first rotary thats supposedly OK with fully synthetic oil - though I havnt kept up and that may have changed - theres just no point to using it.
As sugested the owners club is a great place to go and the oil deal makes it pay for itself anyhow ( use your own 5l of oil for servicing etc..)/
Oil use in reality depends on your driving. You can do a liter of oil in a couple of hours on a track or it could last 2000 miles on the road.
Depends how hard and how high you keep the revs. You get used to your own usage rates fairly quickly anyhow.

The alloys corrode cosmetically - Mazda have replaced loads under warranty. If out of warranty, just get 'em refurbed.
The oil cooler pipes suffered potentially catastrophic corrosion. They didn't recall, but should all have been replaced as a bulletin if serviced in the dealer network.
A few people have had odd bits of bodywork corrosion dealt with under warranty, but it doesn't seem to be a general problem.
Lots of bits of the car that you can't see look very grotty, very quickly, but so far it appears to be superficial and cosmetic.

Just had the rear center brake light sorted as rust appeared through the paint and the rear arches and sills were replaced.
Good to know that I can get the alloys done under warranty though. Ive got till October on them hopefully as it is a paint defect. (this was going to be next years project) If Ive read the warranty incorrectly please tell me so before next week.
