Which Mitubushi Evo????

So have a budget of 15k and want a car that I can use on the odd day but not as my main car and also put around a track every so often. Been Looking at the Evos and do not know which one to buy. Thought I wanted a evo 7, but the evo 5 seems to be the car that everyone goes for. If so why?

Its the first I hear that the EVO 5 is the most desirable.
It surely is for some people, but mostly its a case of being able to get the newest and best condition car for the amount of money they have available to spend.
The EVO4 to EVO6 are considered the best value for money when it comes to the raw feel of the EVO range.
The later models are more refined and comfortable.

We have a 4 which is great to get started with, however with 15K I would be looking at an 8, or maybe a really nutty (big power) 5.

Choice of Evo is generally down to personal taste.
Three generations of the car use the same chasis, with light performance and styling tweaks to each generation within that range to differentiate them slightly. Therefore the I-III, IV to VI and VII to IX are very similar cars.
Mitsi have softened the car for the VII-IXs (and even further for the X) compared to the earlier cars in order to appeal to a larger market.
With your budget and use I'd be looking at an imported IX GSR (don't bother with the IX MR, the improvements over the standard IX are minimal, unlike the VIII MR compared to the VIII). It's much more modern looking than the V, will obviously be a lot newer so less should go wrong, it's a comfortable road car and competent track car, it has a lot of desirable parts over a VII or VIII and it is extremely easy to get significant power out of (although the VII and VIII aren't exactly difficult to get an additional 100 bhp out of).
The VII is also rumoured to have slightly weaker engine internals than the VIII, VIII MR and IX, so that's worth taking into account as you will want to increase the power in the future (although everybody initially thinks they won't).

It's because they changed the "base" car when they brought out the 7. Evo 5&6 were both based on the CP9A platform. 7 and 8 and 9 used the CT9A platform which isn't as good. The Evo 10 uses a CZ4A platform which is new but so far looks like a return to the sort of feeling you got from the CP9A.Other mechanic friends also say the 5/6 is the one to have but, as said, i'm not sure why.

£15k get yourself an EVO 8 for 12ish and then spend the additional money on a big brake kit, an exhuast and reflash the car should be good for 380bhp, take out some weight and maybe address the suspension if you want more control over the drive!!

The Brembo's are more than adequate on an VIII as long as you have the right discs and pads. I found that Bradi discs along with Carbotech XP8's worked really well, a lot of owners also used the PF discs and come pretty highly recommended too by all accounts. A good 5.1 fluid and braided brake hoses will help.
