Discussion
hi, i curently own a suzuki swift sport and am looking into getting something a bit bigger with a bit more power. i really want an impreza turbo2000, been getting some quotes, im 20 with 1 years ncb and have been driving for 3 years, and the best quotes ive got are around £2200 tpft, i will probely pay that much but does anyone know if im likely to get insurance any cheaper? also anyone know any other jap cars i should take a look at? thanks, dan.

Funny that you mention those cars all together with the OP's Impreza suggestion, I recall a Wheels (Aus) magazine article in the late 90's comparing those 4 cars (though the MR2 was a BEAMS NA model iirc)when they were new. The Impreza was a clear winner, 200SX (S14a) second.Edited by GravelBen on Saturday 25th July 14:30

'Lukewarm' - I think the UK turbo 2000 was the same spec as the Aus spec WRX which won that test - 208bhp, later upped to 215.
All the cars suggested have very different driving characteristics in any case, so its hard to recommend something to the OP who hasn't given much idea of what he wants.

Like I said, lukewarm, esp when compared to JDM WRX and STi models of a similar age.

Ignition, boost and Air/Fuel maps for JDM cars are completely different to UK spec. JDM cars run much leaner AFR's, more boost and more ignition timing hence a lot more power!! If you look at the main maps on a UK classic or newage ECU you'll wonder how they make any power and hence understand why they lag behind the japs. If you look at the maps on the next Gen V10 scoobs (hatchback) you'll notice there's much less of a difference as UK STi's are now better mapped from the factory to run 99RON, not really very far off the japs now.

But anyway, back on topic - does the OP have any idea what they actually want in a car other than something bigger ans more powerful than a Swift Sport?
