Impreza front drive shaft removal

Car is a '98 turbo 2000.
I am trying to remove a front drive shaft. The outboard end is seperated from the hub etc. How do you remove the inner end from the gear box?
I thought it would be a case of putting a lever betwwen the inboard CV joint and the gear box and levering it out. However, it has not moved, and before using more force and breaking something I thought I would check that this is the correct way and I am not doing something wrong.
Not so important now, but of use later, is there a torque setting for the hub nut, or is it just a case of REALLY tight.

There should be a roll pin to knock out at the inner end of the drive shaft, about an inch out from the gearbox. Least there was when did it on mine.

Note:If the the roll pin isn't there someone will have swapped in a later box (2003? I think). These driveshafts unplug from the box if you prise them lightly. The earlier box you can do fine, the later one when you unplug the driveshaft the oil contents of the box will come out
