Anyone know anything about these dinosaurs? I have seen a cheapish one and quite fancy it. Any advice welcome! Thanks.

What do you want to know about them and what so you want from them?

Not a bad basis of a car build, fairly quick in stock trim but many a modern hot hatch will easily keep with them.

Very popular with drifters, this is good or bad depending on your take.

Lots of reasons why to buy one, but as said depends on what you want as there are other cars which may be better or faster.

300bhp is attainable with not much money spent. Bit wallowy as standard, but can be made to handle.

not much to add really

If they are looked after they are fairly bomb proof - even tuned ones can do 200k miles

2 basic models S13 with 1.8 turbo'd CA18DET lump (pop up headlights and hatchback) and the S14/S14a with 2.0 turbo'd SR20DET lump. Each have their following

S13's are pretty old now and finding one without major rust issues will be your biggest challenge, but by no means impossible and are prone to bottom end issues if not tuned properly

S14 are just starting to see rust issues.
Parts for both are fairly plentiful despite there not being many in the UK - I've recently done 1500 miles and saw 1.

See SXOC for further details.

Superb owners club (SXOC)

A 1998 S13 (import) would most likely have a SR20DET also.

I didn't want to start confusing the guy with the various derivatives such as the 180sx, Sileighty, red tops etc

Hi guys, thanks for your replies, lots of useful info there.

FYI, the car is here:

CLICK

To be honest, I was after an LPG car and was surprised to see this come up. I've always quite fancied them, but when I saw the mods I thought that AND an LPG conversion might be asking for trouble. Looks a bit pricy too, having done a little research. What d'ya think? And feel free it buy it yourselves if you fancy, I won't get a chance to do anything about it now for a while anyway.

In theory LPG should be great with turbo motors, as LPG is 110-114 octane IIRC.

That said, some LPG setups seem a little fickle so I wouldn't want it missing a beat or you could probably say bye bye engine.

I was thinking that myself, 300. Was surprised to see it appear on the list as usually LPG involves barges.

Didn't we argue about Supercars in the Corvette thread...? I reckon a 200SX is a supercar, ahem.

Yes we did, but I don't judge people by a few posts (as a rule) and hold no grudge what so ever.

As for the 200SX, yes it is a super car, not too sure about a supercar though tongue out

I had a 200SX, J reg S13. Was very very nice. Only real complaint was you had to drive it hard to get it to go. Driving it normally it was SLOW and I don't mean just a bit, a 1.0 litre Fiesta would have beaten it.

This meant it was difficult to drive sedately and you tend to go everywhere at WOT instead.

It did shift very well, perhaps a bit too well considering the stats it should have been carrying. It looked stock but maybe it had been fiddled as it was a lot faster than it really had right to be.

LPG is fine - SM on SXOC drove his on LPG for about 100k miles tuned to stage 1 (260-280bhp) with no issues including many track days.

The one in the advert appears to have been modified the guages and uprated supension, 3' downpipe and FMIC would suggest this but there is no mention of boost control, exhaust or increase power output. Although it mentions FMIC I can't see any evidence of one in the photos. Exhaust looks standard (and new) and probably wipes out any FMIC and downpipe advantages.
Spoiler is non standard

I'm not going to comment on price as LPG does increase its value.

You probably won't find many LPG ones, but if you look around you will probably find better examples that are non LPG. 147k miles is not a lot, but you will find many many more with less than this and cheaper.

My 1996 has 90k on the clock by comparision.
