Hey m8,

My dad bought one of the new hatchback STI's and its deffinetly a car that grows on you. The engine still performs great, fuel economy is a bit better than the previous model and a good bit more comfortable (recently drove it from Glasgow to Peterborough and back again on 2 fuel stops) Prodive Kit makes a big difference in the torque and the new spring kit makes the handling more like the older car. WRXS is nice too.

It's a complete disaster. A ppp blobeye or hawkeye are a million times better. I'm waiting for Subaru to sort it out and evolve the hatchback from it's current relatively undriveable format before I consider another scoob sti. The new Mazda 3 looks like a better bet at present. I haven't driven the Mazda yet but it looks promising and is better looking and miles cheaper than the current hatchback scoob.

Is that actually based on experience or do you just not like the looks? The mags all seem to think its still a good drive if a bit softer than previous versions. No offense but calling it 'relatively undriveable' doesn't exactly inspire confidence in your opinion.

I'd agree the new hatch STI is not a great drive. They've given it the full on 2.5 Boxer turbo treatment and simultaneously tried to soften it and broaden it's a appeal. I've driven both the STI and WRXS and neither of them instills a lot of confidence in the handling stakes when you push them. The late model saloons were much more surefooted.

Calling it undriveable is laugh out loud funny. It may be softer, but it's every bit as capable cross country as it's forebears and, with PPP, 18 inch upgraded wheels and the new Prodrive spring kit, it's a significantly BETTER car than any previous Impreza. I've driven every iteration and always managed to come away slightly disappointed due to the crudeness and, in the previous generations many facelifts, the awful driving position. The 330S required no excuses and I bought it within a week of trying it.
