Going 2JZ on mine
always thought the 2JZ would be well suited, as would an RB30. Not a tad tall though?Very popular in the US.
It has several very good reasons.
Partly the RX7 has always looked good, in original and facelift versions. So if you want to keep the looks and a small RWD sports car an LS engine swap offers everyday reliable power hassle free.
Advantages of the LS1 over other engines.
-They make about 350hp in stock emissions trim
-Will make over 400hp with only bolt on mods
-Can make 500hp+ on 95 RON with only n/a mods in 5.7 litre trim
-Can be taken out to 7.4 litres
-Lots of forced induction setups. A stock motor will make about 500-550hp with a basic supercharger setup
-A reliable 750-800hp can be made from a built forged engine running boost on 99 RON
-1200hp+ has been seen regularly from street motors
-parts are cheap
-they are VERY easy to work on
-reliable
-compact, they are shorter, narrower and smaller than most other DOHC V8's
-lightweight, they well less than most other modern DOHC V8's
-low centre of gravity. Due to being OHV the weight is where you want it, low down

Is there an LS1 conversion kit out there? I am aware of some for the 1JZ and 2JZ engines into an rx7
have a look on www.ls1tech.com there's a section on conversions and there have been loads of RX7's on there. Sure they'll be able to point you in the right direction.

If you look for Hinsons web site in the States there's loads of info there. Also Tinker 27 on the MRC website is the man who knows a lot about doing this brilliant alternative to the rotary. However the americans have coined the term Rotards for those disbelievers of which there are many.

Just throwing some ideas around, but is there much demand for this kind of conversion?
Are you thinking of doing this as a business/pastime? If so I think you will find that there would be no great demand for it mostly because there are a number of people known to rotary owners through the various forums who have a very good reputation for doing this conversion.Saw a lovely conversion in Practical Performance Car a while back.
It is the red car half way down this thread http://www.zroadster.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=172...
