A TD05 16G would be a nice upgrade and easy swap. Spools almost as early and quickly as the TD04. The TD05 18G or 20G will be a quite laggy comapred to the 16G. A VF35 would be another straightforward swap as regularly done by some newage scooby owners.

You have choices, all easy to do.

Remember to factor in the cost of a remap of some description to set everything up with the new turbo fitted and also would it be better to fit larger injectors at the same time.

I can't remember if V3/V4 changed to 440cc injectors as standard or remained 380cc until V5/V6. If he's got the 440's they should be very good for 300+ if you change the standard ECU to something aftermarket with knock control but just now you cannot full custom remap V3/V4 ECU's until hopefully soon via ESL 'Live Tuning' if it happens at all. Chipping isn't recommended as it's very generic despite what the websites and eBay sellers that sell these chips claim!!

Not worth changing to 550's as it will be overfuelling like mad and run horribly without the ECU change, not so bad with 440's as injector duration/pulse is similar but injector scaling needs to be done and then there's an uprated fuel pump, front mount intercoller, cold air induction etc etc.... to add smile
