Anyone who's got an MR2(or Celica) done over 100,000 miles in it.

Just done 120,000 miles in my P-reg MR2 T-bar, and still going well (touch wood).

Brilliant car, and would never part with it until it falls to bits.

I'm at 120k miles in my 94 Celica. It should have the same engine as yours. A 3rd gen 3sge engine (im assuming your car is of the non turbo variety?). Just keep up with services and maintenance and the engine will be fine.

Im currently looking for an mr2 and have seen some with almost 200,000 miles on them, so they seem quite strong.
Does anybody know if the turbo engine has a shorter lifespan?

Hope you find a good MR2 soon. Mine has a full service history but is not the turbo version, so I hope it lasts for many more years. I do about 15K per year. I use it as my everyday car, but my TVR Tamora is the weekend toy. I've had that rebuilt and upgraded to 4.0Lyikes, but the MR2 is still special for me. I just think Toyota got it right with the MR2 Mk2, the looks are still impressive, even now.

I know what you mean about the looks, they have definatly aged well. Il be using mine as an everyday car so I am still torn between the turbo and non turbo. What sort of mpg are you getting on average? Its not the biggest factor for me but certainly something id like to know.
Thanks

I had 109K on my ST Celica - bomb proof engines and I can't see why the turbo'd ones should be the same if you service and look after them.

Quite a few people on the owners forums have an n/a and a turbo one. Quite a few of them seem to prefer the N/A as well. I bought a UK car as the last car i had was an import and was very expensive to keep going so i wanted something with history and cheaper to look after. As the turbo has more bits in the bay it can take longer to service thus costing more. Of course no turbo to worry about replacing as it gets older either.

Mine is an N reg rev 3 with receipts from previous services as well as what i have had done. Its a few hundred miles from 128,000 at the moment. Only faults at the moment are the fairly common oil level sensor going faulty and a snapped plastic "rod" in the ariel meaning it wont go up more than a cm or so.

If your near Leeds you are welcome to have a look at it.

I do 330 miles a week, and a full tank lasts me about a week. It works out approx 30-35 mpg. Two thirds of my journey is motorway so I keep the revs to below 3000, and don't accelerate hard in any of the gears. I guess the turbo will be less on the mpg ?

Some things to point out though, mine is still on it's original clutch, and exhaust, but had a new radiator fitted recently because the old one started leaking coolant. This is common as the radiator is exposed to stones etc because it is very low down. Something to watch out for when looking at MR2's to buy. Also a clutch change is a 5 hour job.

My old Rev3 was well north of 125k when i sold it and it ran like a dream, i always let it warm up, but then ragged the nuts off it and it never seemed to be anything less than perfect.

The OH has around 130k on hers and it feels a little slower than you'd expect (though that might just be after getting out of the Scoob), nothing major but we got it for a steal and it has always needed more tlc than i can afford to give it.

Honestly don't think we will see the like of the Mk1/Mk2 again everytime i sit in one i feel like Toyota just got it right. A n/a rev 5 and a mint turbo are both still on my lottery list.

Oh but both had a faulty oil lights, mine after about 125k and hers when we got it.

Thanks for all the information people, much appreciated. Is the oil light something to worry about or is it just a quirk of the car?
