How Loud Is A Standard 350Z?
Discussion
Well, we've bought one (see here) and are delighted with it. We've got a week of free insurance from the dealer, so I need to swap over the policy from the old car in the next couple of days.
I will need to inform the insurer that the alloys are aftermarket, but I'm having a bit of trouble working out whether the exhaust is standard or not. It looks standard - the pipes are big, but they match the indentations in the bumper - with no manufacturer's branding on it. The only thing that makes me pause is that it sounds a little bit naughty for stock. Not particularly from outside the car, but from inside it. Induction is stock.
So, are standard cars quite loud under acceleration? I don't mind at all, in fact I love it, I'd just like to know what we've got.

I have had mine for about a month and I thought the same thing to be honest and mine is standard.
Get it up in the air if you can, the silencer itself had nissan branded onto it. I did this to be sure!
Aha, that sounds like a solution! I will have a look tomorrow. Well, all credit to Nissan if they do sound this good as standard.Get it up in the air if you can, the silencer itself had nissan branded onto it. I did this to be sure!

Every time I've passed a 350Z they seem very quiet
.
That's because your car has deafened you
.
, but I do have alot of respect for Jap cars having owned an MR2 now for 10 years, and not wanting to part with it, but TVRs are very special cars also - they are BRITISH

.It might be worth checking if high flow cats, such as those sold by Kinetix or berk, have been fitted if you suspect the car may be a bit noisy. These will give a slightly louder, more aggressive tone to the exhaust.
I know it's hard to accurately judge any clips posted on the Internet but it does sound like you may well have the standard exhaust system on your car based on what mine sounds like. You would know if the resonator in the mid pipe had been removed or if tests pipes had been fitted as cars with these mods tend to produce a noticeable rasp.
The standard exhaust does seem to produce a quite distinctive 'hollow' V6 sound which is rather pleasing to my ears but appears to be missing from many of the aftermarket exhausts that I've heard.
As other posters have mentioned you should be able to identify the backbox if you can get under the car but you may already have the answer to that question.

Your other halfs new car is almost identical to mine, mine is a 54 reg Gun Metal GT with Orange Leather - good choice
Mine is loud and is standard, you often forget how loud it is but I often use a BM 330i, and when I get back into the Zed after driving that it sounds very loud!
Strangely, when in Europe this year we had to fill her up with 95 ron fuel - as no SUL was avail and we were in the Alps, and I swear the car sounded nicer on that tank!
