I did a review recently of a year with my P1.

Currently run a Four. But I'm a zealot....
ST205. 8 grand will get you a good one. 240bhp. 300bhp is pretty easy to obtain with a boost controller. Much more than that is pushing the stock engine a bit hard.
60 should be less than 6 seconds (if you're brutal with the clutch). Standing 1/4 mile in 14. Should run on to the right side of 150mph.
I've owned mine a year, and it's boringly reliable. It even seems fairly easy on tyres. I'm currently at 55000 miles, and she's running like a charm.
Bad points? Drinks fuel, the fig of 8 joints want changing every 50K or so and a clutch is a pretty big job. And you always want to take the long way home.
I bought a four rather than a scooby for a couple of reasons. Firstly it feels better built than a old shape WRX, and secondly it's a little rare and a little different. Probably not as focused, but I'm not much of a driver.
Oh, and my 7 year old Four chewed up my bosses new WRX recently. Ate him alive in 1st and 2nd and he never recovered.....

all 3 of these car are quicker than the Chim 400. but i think you should go for a EVO 6. i wanted my dad to buy one when he sold the chim 400 but he said no but he went for a Tuscan. anyway the EVO 6 is quicker 60 than a Skyline GTR, a porker 911 carrea 4, and a impreza 22B and to a 100 its quicker than GTR and 22B
i love the evo 6 they are really quick reliable cars.

I changed from my 1993 Chimaera 4.0 to a 2000 Subarau Turbo (last of the classic shape), it was the best move i ever made. The handling is awesome,the power can be subtley and easily modified to produce savage acceleration which can be used in any weather; and best of all unlike the TVR i was 100% confident that when i opened the garage door on a dark, wet cold monday morning that the car would start and i wouldnt have to be relying on the bus AGAIN!!!!!!
Do it you will not regret it, prices of the "newer" shape subaraus are so cheap at the moment that it is mad not to. Cant comment upon the EVO as not driven one, but assume pretty similar if not a touch more focused than the impreza.

That's unfortuneatly what i've lost in the Chim is the trust it will always work. I'd always had Jap cars before and reliability is something i never thought about. Now i've got the Chim is seems a different story. We've also got an Mitsubishi FTO GPX which my wife drive's but most of the time if we need to go anywhere far away we go in that.
I think i'm more steered toward the Evo as i've had Mitsubishi's before with no probs ever - and with Subaru prices from around £3500 for a knackered turbo now to many 'maxxed' boys seem to have them around where i live.

Having driven all 3 (uk std Impreza, ST205GT4, Evo 6.5 & 7) go for the evo.
Impreza understeers for england (or japan), GT4 is slowest of 3 and very dated &plasticy inside and dull to drive (no steering feel at all). Evo is the best of the bunch, however I must remind you that 4wd is for land rovers and people who can't drive and need a comfort blanket. **runs and hides

All of them have horrible interiors. The Four was the best of the bunch IMHO.
And my Four is significantly quicker than a stock WRX. An STi will cause me trouble.
And yes, 4wd is for those who can't drive. I'm in under illusions about my ability behind the wheel.

Just noticed (sorry for being so dozy), that you actually own my old Chimaera, assuming that UIL 9794 still belongs to a 1993 starmist chianti car ?
Sorry to hear that you are also having trouble with it, i didnt keep it very long after it continually let me down. I actually traded it in for a Subarau and had no regrets (now swopped that but that is a different story....)
Prehaps the newer style UK WRX Sti would be a good choice, as this will give you a more extreme and focused car, certainly alot different from the standard "cooking" WRX.
It is a shame that after owning UIL 9794 i would never again think of buying another TVR, i just couldnt live with the constant unreliablity.

I had the car of Julie, brought it in July last year. The main problems i've had were bad starting - it got to the stage that i couldn't trust it. Had this recently corrected, turned out to be leaking (dribbling injectors), sub standard coil and worn ingnition module. Starts now first time everytime - well at least it has since ahving the repair work carried out in November. A big bill was the downside. I'd be interested to know what problems you had, and any previous onwer details you may know of? I.e why did the owner before you sell it? Did you buy privately?

You should look at getting a gt4 (st185),
They are relitively cheep pretty quick as standard handle well and are rare and look superb with a few mods.
I,ve fitted a custom power flow exhaust, decat, air filter and raised my boost to 13psi.
My mate has a mint black evo 5 with a full system, air filter (all mods for under £1000).
The Evo is a superb car don't get me wrong it handles,looks,accels well (4.6 to 60 standard).
I have driven both cars (since modding mine) and we,ve raced up to about 120mph (of course not on the public highway!!!!)and both cars are equily matched, if anything the gt4 has more kick when the turbo kicks in.
And as for 4wd is for people that can't drive tell that to an evo,gt4 or scooby driver who is sideways going round a corner power sliding whilst rwd driver is in a hedge.

Hi Guys, first of all let me say am not much of one for technical talk on cars coz aint got a lot of idea wot u r on about. I have a 94 GT4 WRC which looks nice and is fairly quick, last year had a 97 WRC that had been tweeked in Japan to the tune of 300 bhp, that was quick.Am currently driving my scooby STi RA which beats the pants of my old 97 WRC but I still think the GT4 is a much better looking car. Not yet had the pleasure of EVO but am planning on buying a 7 next year. Dont ya just love em fast.
