thinking of going jap next year, any ideas?
Discussion
hello all, Thinking of getting rid of my capri for something jap next year, so I would like some opinions on what to look out for over the coming months! I'm looking at spending say 6k on a car, and up to around 2.5k on insurance (if something is really worth it! 19, 2 years no claims)
Cars that I have thought of already -
- Accord Type R
- Crx SIR
- S14a
- MR2 GT (non turbo)
- s13
Any thoughts guys n' girls? Any help appreciated as always, thankyou in advance and a merry christmas and happy new year!

haha, very funny guys. When I said "something jap" I meant something INTERESTING and Jap!
I have only left out the turbo cars due to insurance. Anything like a skyline, evo, mr2 turbo, impreza etc is way out of the question. Insurance on my capri at 19 is 1580, I would like to keep this under 2500. The lack of RWD cars on there i've just noticed! I have had 3 rwd cars since passing my test, and haven't had a fwd car yet, so i'm open to anything really. Any suggestions much appreciated, thanks for your help so far!

How about a Celica St202. Non turbo and FWD.I have only left out the turbo cars due to insurance. Anything like a skyline, evo, mr2 turbo, impreza etc is way out of the question. Or even an MX5?
I'm 18 and driving a 200sx s13 on my own policy. Insurance was 2K. whether i'd recommend it.... petrol costs are stupidly high but the fun factor pretty much weighs it up. I was looking at a celica gt4 but if it were to go wrong the repairs outweighed the car.... clutch about 600quids..... Do some research personally i think the s13 is classy and old but the s14 is a nicer looking car.... Rear seat space is very small... but plenty of spares for both. And both can be picked up for under 2.5k.
As for a st205 i got a quote on one 2.2K but must be a UK car!
Also a supra twin turbo - 2K.....
Shop around

good god, where did you get those quotes for the supra and the celica?!
Try admiral put yourself first and then i put parents 2nd and third. Knocked it down from 4.6k :s sputid or what. Still consider the 200sx, will be just as reliable and cheaper to repair.Sign up to driftworks, know alot about jap stuff.
just got a quote from green insurance at 1500 quid for a 200sx s14 touring. Got a quote from admiral, I will be 19 with 2 years no claims in april, but unfortunately at that point I only will have been passed 6 months. For some reason, the sodding quote system from admiral says there's no way that I can have 2 years no claims when i've only had a full uk license for 6 months, I earnt my first year no claims on a provisional on my first car, and now my second on the capri.
However, if I put that I was born on 31/01/1990 (I was born on the same date in '91) and have held a full uk license for 2 years, then a supra twin turbo comes out at 1800 insurance. in that respect, i'm a little bit confused, as if I put that i've had a full license for 1 year, with 2 years no claims, i get a quote of 3000?

Non turbo Supras are not that fast, I've seen two on track days and been quicker than both in a pretty standard 1.6 MX5 on budget road tyres.
The S14 is commonly accepted to be a much better balanced car than the S13 and is significantly more popular with drifters due to that better balance as well as the extra tuning potential. The main appeal of the S13 is the lower price, though I do like the look of them as well.

An N/A supra is NOT slower than MX5 all else being equal. It (the Supra) can do a 7 sec 0-60.The S14 is commonly accepted to be a much better balanced car than the S13 and is significantly more popular with drifters due to that better balance as well as the extra tuning potential.
