Ok,

So I am STILL searching for a car.

I have noticed that a large number of the cars I am looking at in my price range are so called "Drift Spec" (mainly 200SX's).

Would it be wise to run one of these as a daily or should I steer well clear?

Thanks
Alex

Define drift spec?

Are we talking rock hard coilovers, massive camber, 2mm ground clearance and locked/agressive 2 way diffs?

Strikes me as a stupid idea to run something like that as a daily drive smile

Well that was more my question really...

Define Drift spec...?

I don't really know a lot about drift cars and how they would be set up.

However I have decided not to go Japanese so I guess it is not really relevant anymore.

Any car deliberately designed or modified to 'drift' can only be a bad idea for a daily driver.

That was my thought as well, just thought I would get confirmation first.

I drove a drag Skyline GTR every day through stop-start London commuter traffic for a year. You learn to adapt your driving style.

lets be honest most of the adverts i have seen for 200sx that have drift spec or similar in the title means that someone has put a dump valve, a spoiler and some graphics on and maybe some rota or equally common oversized wheels.

This is also kind of what I was getting at, One persons idea of "Drift Spec" might be very different to anothers.

To me, wheels, spoiler, and a dump valve to not mean this!

i guess it comes down to how comfortable you want to be when driving and if you have a "proper" built for purpose drift car.

in my experience driving cars with stiff low suspension, not a massive amount of ground clearance, very stiff low profile tires and a fair amount of negative camber means you have to accept you will feel every bump/inperfection on the road and wear out a lot of tires. Also consider that driving around in a car with next to no or very little interior also makes for a loud car, even without having a large bore straight through exhaust system. If you plan on having a roll cage and 2 buckests then it can be a pain in the ass climbing in/out the car and restricts your ability to have passengers.

You may also get more unwanted attention from plod as they may* automatically judge you to be a fast & furious wanna be.

But on bright side it is a hell of a lot more fun than driving a non descript standard issue euro box.
