I assume you're reffering to the S15 type r here. If so they are just like any other S Body to live with, all thats different is a Slippy diff, some cosmetic and interior tweaks and some chassis bracing when compared to the S15 type s. A good friend of mine runs one and is a happy as larry with it. I myself have had several S Bodys and they make great everyday cars.

Isn't the Spec-S the NA version and the Spec-R the turbo?

Best mate had one for about a year until someone in a 4x4 pulled out in front of him ruining the car and his legs frown

That said it was an awesome car, had basic breathing/exhaust mods and a set of wheels. Went like stink, looked fantastic, handled well and had on demand oversteer.

Nice interior(for a jap sports car) comfy seats and rare enough that most people have no idea what it is.

Go for it smile

Really nice looking cars and by all accounts pretty quick as standard (0-60 in 5.6 for a Spec-r?)

I'm quite taken with this one:

Not sure about the alloys, perhaps all-black would work better.

Sounds about right - 250bhp as standard but very tuneable - one of the Aussie mags (IIRC) did an article on it, just breathing mods (filter, exhaust) and a remap had it comfortably over 300bhp.

Stock ECU is remappable with the addition of a daughterboard and the Garrett GT28xx turbo range bolts straight on.

Nissan boys have it easy biggrin

I have read a few reviews of the car from when it was released that the 6 speed gearbox in them can be a noisy thing and occasionally notchy and clumsy to use.

I have not read many stories of them failing though so they seem to be typically Nissan strong and I have also read the shift quality can be improved with things like using high quality oil and fitting an aftermarket shift kit.

Always been really tempted by one of these but they are to expensive in Australia.

there are some known gearbox weeknesses - I dunno if they are any better/worse than the S14 box

http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/index.php?showt...

there isn't an awful lot of difference beteen the S14(a) and the S15, BB Turbo (still T28), bigger WMIC, I think bigger std injectors 480 instead of 440. so in general they have a little more headroon for tuning in std trim

Prices are very different though. S15's are a lot more expensive than a similar level of tune S14.

Only up until October 2000, all made after that date are standard journal bearing. If you look on the S15OC theres a sticky post detailing the chassis numbers/build dates which you can use to check your car against.

Mag reports when it was new considered the S15 a much better handling car than the S14, IIRC largely due to the helical LSD they came with.
