looking for a 6-7 seater, and so far I`m drawn to either the honda odyessy, or the mitsubishi space wagon with the 2.4 engine.
As I understand it, both of these models are imports?

can anyone give advice, knowledge on either of these cars, is the reputation good or bad.

there are`nt any in my area, so will have to travel to view, so looking for as much info as poss before travelling around the country.

I have never driven both but personally if I had a choice, I would go with the Honda. Depends on what model year you're looking at? If 7 seaters are your thing, what about Toyota's Previa or the Mazda 5? What's your budget?

If it has to be Japanese, how about a 7 seat Landcruiser? They may be a fraction over budget for a good one, but it might be worth looking?

If your 6-7 includes little ones, what about a Volvo 240 estate (yes, I know they're not Japanese!) with rear facing jumpseats? Must be verging on classic status now, but cheap and there are good ones out there.

Renault did a 7 seater version of the 21, and wasn't there even a 7 seat Montego estate? But of course you don't get Volvo build quality . . . ).

I`ve had 5 volvo estates in the past, great cars but rear facing seats are a big no no for me, need to fit child seats ect, strange thing is life seems to go full circle, needed big cars for my own children when I was younger, now 25 years later looking at 7 seaters so I can fit 4 grandchildren in the car for days out ecthehe

^^ I'd imagine them to be quite thirsty. Never driven or owned one though.
