Later versions of the S series are bloody lovely bits of kit and much more subtle in their styling.
Really I think you would need to be a real fan or collector to want to buy one though, they are quite expensive and you can get similar results buying aftermarket bits yourself and bolting them to a normal STI.

Interior for the S204

I never understood why Subaru did not fit seats like this to the regular STI and WRX. Although I own and enjoy a 2006 WRX the entire experience is let down by the simply shat seats. Not that comfy and completely lacking in lateral support.
Don't Subaru realise just how much grip their cars can muster?!?!

Pretty much every Subaru I've been in has had excellent seats! The ones in my Legacy are very similar to these (but that one looks very grey inside):

With far, far more lateral support than the MX5, I don't have to brace myself against the door in the Legacy!

Those seats in the S204 are proper Recaro's with grippy alcantara in them. They are pretty similar to the ones the Evo gets and are fantastic at holding you in...really not for the wide of arse to sit in! They are much deeper than they look in the picture.
The 2006 WRX gets seats like these (this is my car):

The STI seats are the same but the black is replaced with blue alcantara.
They changed to the seat style in my car when they face lifted the model from the 'classic' to the 'bugeye'.
They are no where near as body hugging as they look. They are actually quite flat and offer little lateral support.
The base especially does not stop your bum and hips moving around. On track going through left handers I am slumped hard against the door with my left leg wedged against the centre console and going through right handers I have to try and control the throttle and have my right knee wedged against the door, my left leg against the centre console and trying to support my upper body with the steering wheel.
Across the shoulders is also flat so your upper body slides around easily.
The STI seats are a tiny bit better due to them being alcantara style, your clothes stick to them.
I would change my seats to something deeper however they have side impact airbags in them and fiddling with anything safety orientated is a massive

pardon my ignorance but surly that body work is not part of the S201 kit?

Cheers Ben.
I have to say that after the bugeye newage scoobs lost their real character. If i could afford it i would have an S202 in completely unmolested form and do very little to it.
One day!!

Sounds like me in the MX5! Mid-corner gearchanges are a tad tricky on the occasions they're necessary. Upgrading to proper buckets soon though
The s204 seats also have a carbon fibre shell, really not cheap!
