diff/tyre whine Impreza
Discussion
I've had this with Toyo T1R's.
When new they are fine but as they start to wear on the insides due to the amount of rear neg camber as standard on newage cars you will get a whine from about 40/50mph to 10mph which sounds almost like it could be a diff whine, but it isn't.
As soon as you put new tyres back on the whine goes away, and as they start to wear again the whine starts to creep in again and gets louder the more the tyres wear.

Thanks didnt have a whine until I fitted new tyres to the front and left the half worn tyres on the rear should I have fited all four matched tyres?
It's not a massive problem as long as you don't intend to leave the worn tyres on for more than a few hundred miles. Any longer than that and you could end up stressing the diffs more than is sensible. It's always best to replace all 4 tyres together regardless of whether 2 of them look okay.alfa daley said:
Really all four tyres at the same time? What if you get a puncture and have to replace a tyre. I could understand possibly replacing two if tread levels were quite different (even that would be pricey), but four!
We are only really talikng about 4wd /AWD cars here where it's a necessity. If you got a puncture when the tyres were nearly new it wouldn't be a problem to replace the punctured one only.If it happened when you were any more than about 2/3rds of the way through the tyres you would be best off replacing the lot. Such is the fun of owning a 4wd/ AWD car I'm afraid. The world wouldn't come to an end if you didn't follow the advice, and only did 2 at a time, it just isn't the best thing to do.Gassing Station | Japanese Chat | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
