Just wondering what this car is like. I quite like the look of it and was considering going for a test drive - just thought i'd poll others thoughts.

Currently I have a Toyotal Celica 1.8 ST (old shape), but have had a Celica 2.0GT and a Lotus Elan M100 in the past.

I've had my 350z since last November and I have loved every minute of it.

They are comfortable to drive, and do not feel overly fast until you look down at your speedo. The driving position makes you feel very involved, the steering and pedals are pretty heavy, and in general they are great to drive.

They are pretty thirsty though, I average 21-22 mpg with a mix of town and motorway driving and usually get 250-270 miles to tank. (80 litres)

Get yourself over to www.350z-uk.com - everything you need to know is there.

Had mine for 3 months now.

Economy: if I'm just doing my daily 8-mile commute to and from work I get c.20mpg. However, If I'm on a motorway run cruising at 85 mph (assuming that were legal!) then it's c.27mpg. Slow down to 70mpg and it'll easily be 32-33 mpg. However, the car should be run on super unleaded.

Performance: The car has quite long gearing, and power is limited in the first 3 gears so sometimes does not feel that quick. What surprises me is the way that the car will accelerate strongly in 4th/5th gear well into 3 figures. 0-60mph time is approx. 5.8 seconds (slightly quicker for the later cars) and 0-100mph is around 14 seconds. Top speed is limited to 155mph, but a £400 remap will remove the limiter.

Maintenance: Service intervals are every 9,000 miles, and a major one should cost less than £500. No cam belts to change. Tyres apparently last 9-12,000 miles.

Different models: Early cars had 276bhp. In 2006 the engine was substantially revised to develop 296 bhp, but lost a little torque. In either '07 or '08 the engine was revised again to give c.310bhp. Performance is largely the same. The GT option adds full leeather interior, cruise control, heated electric seats 6-CD changer, etc.

As 350Stee said, come over to www.350z-uk.com

Cheers for the replies. I may have to go and test drive one afterall. I would be looking at an older model due to financial restrictions.

What is your spending limit? If money allows, have a look for a GT spec one, and beware of imports...

Middlehurst in St Helens got a 2003 car with the GT pack up at £11,995. Azure blue with black leather, apparently one owner and 42,000 miles.

Great cars. Old school NA RWD, LSD = big fun!

I think I slightly prefer them to the 370Z as they don't grip as well so you can have more fun. There's one on the front cover of www.auto-journals.com at the moment. Nice wheels.

I replaced a 3.2 Alfa Romeo Spider last year with a 313bhp Roadster and absolutely love it to bits. Feels so solid compared to the Alfa. Agree with the above that it doesn't feel that fast until you look at the speedo!! I live in the sticks so no town driving but get mid 20's and 30+ when cruising, mind you I've not thrashed it as I've been running it in.

always fancied one, but never really looked at them, cant do much tuning wise though can you, as no remap software is available?? or has that changed now?

That's definitely not the case! Being naturally aspirated you're never going to see the gains you would on an FI car, but you can still increase the power. Abbey Motorsport in the South and RS Tuning (I think that's what they're called) in the north offer RR remaps for about £400. There are plenty of off the shelf FI kits available too...

How long ago since these become avaliable?

I asked about a year back about modding on the 350Z forum and was told there was no software for remapping, so kinda put me off looking into buying one!!

I did have a Saxo VTS when I was 19 and managed to fit in that laugh

Don't know, I've only had my Zed since Jan! However, if you go to www.350z-uk.com (or call Abbey Motorsport directly) they'll be able to tell you. From what I understand it's a pretty straightforward process to remap the car and is done on a RR.

I'm in the process of deciding on an exhaust system (and maybe some high-flow cats) and will have my car remapped thereafter so I should know more in the near future!

Best,

Alex

if your getting your car remapped mate do as much as you can afford to do before you remap, cause you will end up doing an exhaust, get a remap, then do breating mods another re-map, do as much as you can at once mate saves the cash!

Have fun!

Anything to look out for on the early models?
I'm looking to spend around £8500 - £9000 on an early UK spec car?

I am 6ft 1 and I am perfectly comfortable in the zed. smile

Common issues is clicking rear axle at low speed and problems with the Bose system in GT packs skipping, also the left speaker sometimes fails to work.

As said on above posts, go on the 350z-uk website, everything you need to know is there.

Whats the issue with imports? If they don't feel fast, would a stiffer suspension give it more feel? Any preffered suspension mods?

This one has caught my eye over the past couple of weeks
