Hi,

I'm thinking of buying a Legacy 2.5 GX manual, what are people's experiences and thoughts? I like the fact that its an 'anonymous' car with hidden talent and has 4 wheel drive which is a must for me considering the recent bad weather we've had.

What are the realistic running costs? Strenghts and weaknesses?

Great cars, very little goes wrong and excellent ride/handling balance makes bumpy roads a breeze. AWD traction is fantastic too. smile

2.5 is a nice torquey motor though still no rocketship - you want the turbo versions for that!

Thanks for that, exactly what I was hoping for. What are the realistic running costs; ie- mpg, servicing etc?

Servicing no issuus cheap tbh, watch for head/rad issues on early vars other than that they are spot on
  1. I got mid 20mpg short runs and no differnet when towing either

I haven't had a 2.5 but my current 2.0TT averages around 26mpg, can do 30-33 on a run. Older 2.0 I had averaged more like 28-30 IIRC and 35+ on a run, the 2.5 is probably closer to that.

Had my 2.5 for 3 months and 6k miles - averaging 36mpg, but that does include quite a few motorway miles............not the fastest car in the world but a very comfortable cruiser withe plenty of toys.......and it was very cheap.

Oops - a typo - eta - it's only 36 mpg......wishful thinking at 46! TBH though I sstill think 36 from a 2.5 petrol is pretty good overall

Didn't realise the 4th-Gen Legacy was that much better on fuel, good to hear!
