Or suspiciously cheap?

I know absolutely nothing about them at all, nothing.

Sounds from the ad like it has been modded to thrash about.
Ask questions about the remap, actually, just ask for lots more info as the advert isn't informative.

Only one service, fairly fresh from Japan?

My initial impression is stay away.
(why is the advert in caps?)

I bought mine from pheads classified with a similar ad the best thing to do is to go and have a look the engine looks clean as does the car itself,if its an import there may not be any history as there wasn't with mine and they are quicker than the uk versions usually arount 280 bhp, find out when the cam belt was done or if the owner has had it done and if you do look watch for any signs of turbo smoke you never know somebody might want the money and you end up with a bargin like i didsmile

I have a Silver V3 so i will give what little help i can.

Plus Points, all the usual STI bonuses (fast, reliable and good handling) +
Wagon owners tend to be from a different demographic, it is rare to see an STI wagon that isn't looked after, whereas STI saloons are often a bit less loved.
More subtle that other Scoobs
Practical, rear seats fold flat, but a tall driver means one of the rear passengers has to be short.
Less likely to get Chav attention/barrys racing you.

They are thirsty, i average around 210 miles for a 50litre tank, and the general consensus is you should only fuel them with 99ron (tescos) or Shell Opti. It has the aero of a brick and 80mph+ is on boost unless you are very gentle on the throttle. I can get 300+ miles from a tank on a long run (70-80mph max) but not easily.
You need to make sure belts and pulleys have been looked after, and see how the owner treats it, they NEED to warm up and they should be driven gently/idled before turning off after sustained boost.
Early STI's have st brakes in comparison to the power/speed you can carry so worth checking if they have been changed from OEM.
Cooling problems common to older STIs, the I/C is not mounted flush so that might need addressing hence the number of Front Mount mods on the early models.

Some 300bhp remaps on scoobys are a bit "oldskool saab" for the power delivery awesome fun but can be annoying to live with. (strangely my low boost (260) is like that and my high (300) is very smooth delivery)

I reckon you should go drive it, withing a couple of minutes i was sold and i knew i had to have mine. I cannot think of what i would change it for and it covers so many bases, i have endless fun in it, didn't have any problems in the snow, have taken it up steep grassy hills/mild offroading with a huge smile, have towed friends cars, driven miles without any aches and aside from an ECU glitch recently it has proved fautlessly reliable.

Hope that helps. biggrin

It may be suspiciously cheap but the CDB engine it comes with is worth that alone. Spend a couple of grand on a decent crank/rods/pistons and that little puppy will be virtually indestructible. You'll pay £2500-£3500 for one of those in good condition depending on what part of the country it's coming from and what it's had done to it. I would say you cannot lose.....Bargain!!

If it's been remapped then it can only be an ESL solution. If it's been chipped then it could be any old 5h1te. I bet it been chipped as opposed to remapped.

No matter...It's still a CDB engine so still worth the money.

Ask for the engine code then check here: http://www.catherineandken.co.uk/sti/engine.html

I'm not 100% sure all the V2's had CDB (certainly not all up until '96 anyway...)

V2 STi's and Type RA's had a CDB.
