celica st202 brakes. help needed please

hi all.
basically i've got a problem with my brakes.if i have to brake suddenly sometimes the peddle judders down to the ground and i can hear a whirling noise like a fan or a motor going.it can be quite scary as the car doesnt stop properly.any ideas what it could be?

I'm going to say something obvious here.

You're not just triggering the ABS are you?

My Gen 6 ST202 does the same under very heavy breaking on loose or slippery surfaces. Sounds very much like the ABS system kicking in a bit early if it does this under normal driving conditions.

Have a look at the Celica club web site as the link previously has & join up, there's a lot of info on there for Celica owners of all marques. Brakes seem to be a weak point on the Gen 6 if not regularly checked.
