Yes its overpriced compared to UK delivered cars, but have you both looked at the state of the £/¥ exchange rate? Explains the high price wink

What evidence is there that this trader is unable to compete?

The fact that we may all think it is priced highly compared to UK delivered MR2 roadsters is not evidence of them being unable to compete. smile

all i know is glasses guide book a 2000/w MR2 roadster at 2650 trade and 4140 retail. 6995 for an import is not competitive, regardless of how nice it may be. this car would, most likely cost the following. (auction price taken from this weeks osaka auction house)
car 400,000 YEN exchange rate currently a crap 132, so thats approx £3k sterling
shipping £approx 450
import duty and vat £500 (based on the usual method importers use)
the car is over ten years old so only requires an MOT, so a rear fog light and mph convertor chip £55 and 2 hours labour tops.
MOT, registration, tax and number plates approx £250
so a total of 4255 on the road, competitive? imo no

I imported some cars from Japan in 2008 at 200y to the £. Now its about 130y so its a big drop. It was actually up at 250y end of 2007.
You really have to be picky about what to import, as EK9 Type R Civics are more than the ones already here, and so too are Glanza Starlets, both of which I brought in 2008.

I noticed MR2s, GT4s, EVOs were all not worth doing, unless your after a particular mint car and are prepared to pay for it. Such as a Mint Evo6 Tommi Makinen with 13000 miles on went for what would cost £16k, it would take an enthusiast to pay that, but it was as new.
I am importing a Legacy B4 RSK, as they are actually pretty well priced along with GTBs, but I admit there is really not much else that caught my eye.
Paying that money for a MRS is totally stupid IMO.
