Hi
Just bought 2003 model. Just one concern. When I start up sounds like crackling noise from clutch or first gear..also present in idle..seems to come and go not consant and not in other gears
Secondly...anyone know of any good interior repair places...( plastic worn in places/scuff scratchs) I live in Bucks
Cheers

I have a normal 1.8vvti, and have no noises at all, even with 97k miles on. It doesnt sound right to me, could be a number of things. Why did you buy it like that?Just bought 2003 model. No idea about interior places where you are, what about second hand bits on ebay?
To be honest if its marked and making noises it doesnt seem a wise buy as it wasnt looked after. Mines had 7 owners on the log book, and is only let down by a couple of passenger door dinks from car parks. Interiors are pretty robust on them.
I have spoken to a workshop, prob a loose tension belt. Other noises prob relate to rust on rear disc, these can be cleaned. In all honesty I dont believe any car doing 89 K will never make any noises mate. Both of these noises are common issues. I will be hearing next that no car ever gets stone chips !!!
The workshop is Japex in Herts, come highly recommended on Celica UK forum.
Dash isnt bad..its just as with any 2nd hand car there will be wear and tear and I want to make it as good as poss. This is out of choice not necessity.
Cheers

Brakes are not expensive, its probably a caliper sticking on, so its not as bad as you made it sound.

Celica's are like lego and the parts are quite cheap - TCB (Toyota Celica Breakers) or Cheap Toyota Parts will be able to supply interior plastics for you to replace. If it's the smooth surrounds around the radio / window switches etc, these are easily spray painted with plastic-Kote spray and lacquered, the larger mottled main dash would be better of replaced if it's that bad.
Again, there should be several members on the Celica club with photo's of what can be done and re-trimmed easily.
Sounds like you have the rattles sorted, keep an eye on oil levels and lift bolts and she should do another 89K easy.
